I have been looking around for quite awhile. I thought maybe some of you could help me in my search. I want it as a knife for a survival situation, but will also probably use it a lot in the woods. Here is what I'm looking for:

-full tang (and thick enough that it isn't gonna break)

-good steel that will last for generations

- I prefer leather, wood, bone, etc. you know, some of the more traditional ones. I do NOT like the newer handle materials, However it does need to hold up good (water, impact, etc.). The stacked leather on my ka-bar is probably my favorite handle materials of the knives I already have.

-as for size and weight I don't really care as long as it can get the job done. I would like a little bit of chopping power, but only for small branches and such (not looking for an ax). Basically add anything you got.

-I'm not a fan of serrated edges on the main side of the blade, but if their on the back that is fine, but not required.

-I actually don't want it to have a lot of "bells and whistles" (just for an example: I saw the Tom Brown Tracker knife and it actually seemed like too much of a multi-tool and not so much a knife, but if you've used/liked it then say so).

-PRICE IS NO OBJECT!

I AM OPEN TO ANY AND ALL SUGGESTIONS. THEY WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS PLEASE POST THEM. Pictures/reviews are optional.

THANK YOU ALL AND GOD BLESS!

Get a Swamp Rat Ratmandu or an ESEE 3,4,5, or 6. They are Amazing blades that have excellent steel that is tough as nails and holds an edge. They also have lifetime warranties which are the best in the business. If you break it, they replace it. They do have Micarta handle scales which are not "new" but probably considered non traditional. However they are are the most durable handle material out there and work in all conditions. If you don't like them, custom handles made from wood, jigged bone etc... are easy to come by here on the forum.
I have owned many, many high end knives and these are the best of the best.

Also, if price is not an object look at the Fallknven Northern Series. I haven owned the THOR and it was incredible and very traditional.

Bark River makes excellent blades. Some are traditional, while some are not. I have one on the way.

Also the custom world has alot of knives that fit the bill. Go to the exchange and look under fixed blades for sale custom made.

Custom. You sound like a man who knows what he wants. If money is no object you should probably go get exactly what you want :)

Thanks guys! All those were very helpful. Definitely added some for me to think about. Also, I have thought about getting a custom and I think I will someday, but I feel like I wood be so afraid of breaking it that I would never want use it. In your experience (if you've had a custom knife) is it like that or can you use it, and in some cases abuse it, like any other knife?

Google Dan winkler and check out some of his winkler II series of knives.

I know you said you don't care for modern handle materials, you could look into getting a nice busse and have somebody put on a different pair of handle slabs that match your style more.

You shouldn't have any problem finding a custom knife you can have no fear of abusing

Kabar is re-releasing the mark 1, it is/or will be available w/ the stacked leather.

There are custom blades out there that cost less than some production blades.
I have a JK (custom maker here on BF) "Big Bushcrafter" made of O-1 tool steel that I have no fears will handle any reasonable use.
Mark Wohlwend's Booshway is another very solid custom blade that won't break the bank.
production blades that can handle punishment include ESEE and Becker -- but you'll need aftermarket scales for them. (ESEE uses Micarta, Becker has molded grivory)
On the low end, Condor makes some every simple, utilitarian blades with wood handles -- Bushcraft basic, Bushlore, Sapien, Hudson Bay.

If money is no object, I'd strongly recommend you take a look at Fallkniven's Tre Kronor series. Particularly TK1 and TK2. Unbelievable knives that will last you longer than you would care to own them. Practically indestructible. For chopping, I'd get a good quality axe, or a machete (like Ontario) or if you really want to treat yourself, a Golok or Parang.

the one i would get if the money didnt matter would be fallkniven NL5cx, but since the price do matter to me i use the TK1 and its awsome!
