......in a local park i hadnt been to in years. When my girlfriend and i got there i was shocked to see my oldtime favorite heavily wooded park had been seriously cleared out.Som many trees had been cut and all the underbrush was gone.i was sad
:thumbdn:As we walked around i was surveying all the horrible destruction when something beautiful caught my eye in amidst all the "trash branches"that whoever did this terrible massacre had left littered everywhere......i spot the most perfect absolutely amazing piece of wood. Its naturally shaped like an axe handle!!!!!!The curve is right the f#%k on,the grain is super tight, and it grew in a very nice oval profile!! I couldnt have imagined a better piece of maple. So i stashed it near the entrance of the park, returned a few hours later to retrieve it,wrapped it in a towel and tied it to my bag and off i went.On my return home i got to examine it a little more closely,OMG!!!
this thing is even better than i thought,as i started peeling the bark off i realized that it was so much straighter than i first thought. Now i know i should have taken pics of it in the raw raw,but i was too excited and imediately started shaping it out....i will post some pics of it as the work continues:thumbup:
i've never seen an axe hung on a maple haft.....why is that?
