And thinking of getting either a spyderco or a kershaw. To give you a ballpark as to what they charge i got my benchmade vex for 60 even and the kershaw blur is 90. I paid 80 for my swisstool. So, what do you guys recommend? I don't like cheap feeling knives. I want it to be a folder, dont care about locking mechanism. Good blade steel. I have 100$ to spend.

Kershaw Junkyard Dog II and Spyderco D'Allara Drop Point both immediately come to mind. Both under $100. Both excellent cutters. Neither feel 'cheap,' which is weird on the D'Allara as it has a plastic handle, but the full steel liners completely remove that bendy feeling and let you appreciate the knife for being a cutting beast.

You are looking for cutting beasts, correct? Something that might not perform micro-surgery (at least, not until it's resharpened) and won't fall apart just because it may have slammed open a few (hundred) times.

Isn't the Vex one of Benchmade's Red-Class knives? I could be wrong, but if it is, I'd recommend choosing a BM blue or black class....one that's MADE IN THE USA. You might find it not so easy to send back. :D

It is too much. Wrong place.I got my Blur with SG2 for $60. Buy on line.
For $100 you can get a good folder.

Get a Kershaw Junkyard Dog II, or a Kershaw Cyclone. Trust me on this.

I have the Kershaw Blackout and could not be happier with a folder. I alsomhave the Kabar Warthog folder which is another good tough folder. I like the Buck 1110 except for the weight. I have a couple BM which IO have had no problem with. They are however a little smaller than my Blackout.

A lot of online vendors accept money orders as well. Takes a few days longer to receive your knife, but it beats inflated prices or trying to convince a friend or parent to make the order for you.

As for some knives I'd recommend...well, you didn't list many requirements except for good blade steel and under 100$ (Some of these you'll have to buy here to get them under 100$, but most members take MO as well)....

Spyderco Manix
Spyderco Military
Spyderco D'allara
Spyderco Endura 4
Byrd G10 Cara Cara or Meadowlark, whichever size suites you
Kershaw Ener-G
Kershaw Junkyard Dawg 2
Kershaw Bump
Boker Trance

There's a lot to look at in the under 100$ price range.

Walmart sells the Blur for $50.00 and while you're there you can check out the Buck 110, Kershaw Storm II, and the Spyderco Native.

If you decide to get a knife at walmart you better hurry, they are downgrading their knife seletion as we speak, its going to end up that there are no displays, just knives in blister packs on the wall, which means winchester and gereber, nothing that good...:( No more Kershaws, no more Native! Not even CRKT's!!!

You're comparing a $60 knife to a $90 knife and hinting you are dissatisfied with BM? If you liked BM to start, why not try a $90 BM knife and compare apples to apples.

Excellent advice

...and yes, I checked. The VEX is a BM Red-Class. If you paid $60, you paid retail, almost 40% too much (expecially for a U.S. business sub-out-knife to Taiwan).

As Shaman said, if you liked Benchmade to start with, why buy their cheapest line and then decide you need a different [brand]? Their blue and black class knives are among the best in the world at any inflated cost.

Yep, one of the Walmart's near me recently did this. Only notable items on display were Leatherman's and Buck's from what I recall.

There's nothing wrong with Benchmade Red Class knives- I have a Pica and it's a beautiful knife- this from the guy who doesn't like opening holes or spending more than $20 to $25 on a given knife, but still demands quality...

No, I agree....but there would be if you bought one, didn;t like it, and decided to send it back. Now...wouldn;t there?
