So I'm making these scales out of Purple Heart hardwood. It's my first time working with this wood and I learned that it gives burn marks REALLY easy.

Here they are so far.

So I'm wondering if I should leave those marks the way they are (they are actually a really nice purple when burned) because the marks are REALLY hard to get rid of, or should I work diligently and carefully to try and get rid of them?

I'm pretty ok with the burns at the ends btw, I think it works really well with it.

EDIT: Well I decided to sand them all off. I`m glad I did because these are gorgeous.

Sanding can really make a difference.

How did you "burn" them?

The only way I can think of would be using power equipment with dull sandpaper or cutters..

If you still have enough wood to work with simply hand sand them a bit more starting with a course grit(100 or less) and then work back up to fine. Do it all by hand.

Heck take a torch to it and turn all of it purple, then seal it really well.

Yep, I just use the power tools for initial shaping. Follow up with some hand sanding at a fairly coarse grit, and you'll get rid of that in no time.
