So... Is there any functional purpose to the Waki butt?

If you are looking to Eric for advice on 'butts' you are truly lost my friend... :rolleyes:
 
Sir Mix-a-lot had some ideas.

I like the shape, keeps it from flying out of my hand. Probably the main reason for it. I was unsure when I first saw pics, but in hand, it works well.
 
I saw his comment about it being revealed at some point, so I'm curious too.

But it looks good all on its own if nothing else, and I imagine it would probably hurt a bit if you gave someone a lovetap with it.
 
There was 'official' mention of something to be release sometime to cost some amount of money. Gotta just love how Busse-kin seems to enjoy teasing.

Actually this isn't correct. There is a functional purpose but there was never any mention of anything that needs to be purchased or attached. That was just speculation and then became "truth", however it isn't true.

Monopod was actually something I was thinking... a barrel rest or something.
 
I cut down a tree with one yesterday, that butt/pommel certainly helped keep that blade in my hands the whole time. I was hitting that tree as hard as I could swing that Waki, gave myself a nice blood blister in between my palm and wedding band. Super impressive blade, first one I ever handled, I'm looking to buy one now.
 
Well... I figured that if you wanted to cook some stew, ya build a fire, jam one Waki into the ground on each side, and use a pole resting in the crook of each to hold the stewpot by the handle. No? :foot:

Actually, the rifle (or camera) monopod idea might work pretty well in a pinch. :thumbup:

Is the unveiling of the 'functional purpose' going to have spontaniously by SRKW or will it only someday, sometime in the future, be unveiled along with another new release?

I guess the reason I care about it is if its purpose is something cool/indispensable then I will want to keep my Waki in its stock config. If it is something else then I am thinking of modding the pommel. Fortunetly I do not have the powertools, nor the money to purchase them, to do what I have been thinking of, so I guess mine is safe for the time being.
 
My best guess... a pommel weight that you can attach to bring the balance back to (approximately) under your index finger.
 
I like the idea of bolting a device on the end. Put a reversed edge on a War Boar and some tapered holes in the finger ring; bolt it on and you get a Waki with a Scorpion tail. Coooool... Functionally; blade up would be in wall hanger display mode. Blade down would make a hand guard with that reversed edge for back slashing.

I don't have one, but I was thinking that the shape of the butt would make it a great bottle opener:D
 
This maybe out there but it looks like you could bolt or lash it to a pole and really extend its reach. Like a pike head or something along those lines. Something along those lines would have been great about 200 years ago as a counter cavalry weapon.
 
I guess someone could possibly use the butt to attach to a stout pole for an long spear or lance. Depending on the length of the staff it could still be very useful in closer in hand to hand. What would be really cool is a sheath that would have the holes for the pommel in it for a ready to go spear.
