I have no idea what came over me. I was just sitting around one night, and thought that it would be a great idea to start modding the BK2. Basically all I did was sand (by hand) the coating off of the blade, and because my sanding arm got sloppy, I also kinda convexed it :P. The only grits I had available to me at the time was a sheet of 150 grit, and a half sheet of 2000 grit, so it was interesting getting that coating off.

In the future, I'll actually prepare for doing this, and will be doing this the paint stripper way next time.

Anyway, once I did that, I did a little mustard patina on it to keep it looking pretty. I also threw on a lanyard as well.

What do you guys think?

The whole shabang

A close up of the patina on the blade. I think it looks cool.

Also, I mentioned in another thread that my BK2 is actually bent to the left, and because of that, the grinds at the tip are off. I thought that I would show everyone what it looks like. Sorry about the photo quality on this photo, it's less than awesome, but you can seen the messed up grind.

The messed up grinds don't bother me at all, I just thought it would be interesting for some of you to see.

And finally, I managed to use the firesteel and the BK2 to actually start a fire tonight (sounds lame, but my previous attempts were met with failure). So while thats small time news for most of you, that was pretty exciting to me :).

anyway...

is OUT!

All good stuff, man! I am willing to bet money dollars that yours is not the first mod that started with "I was just sitting around one night...". Hell, I've got seven of my kids due to that phrase.

"Seven of"? How many kids you got? Wow!

Yea, I doubt that I am alone in my "not too thought out modding". Heck, clich seems to mod everything he sees as soon as he comes up with an idea (luckily, they're all sweet).

I didn't take the time to get all of the grind marks off, as my arm was tired, and I'd gone through a layer of skin on my thumb, but I could see how I would want to do that sometime in the future (aka, when I get a belt sander).

And I'm getting closer and closer to pulling the trigger on that War Sword BRL... How is your resistance to the cutlass holding up?

Looks good, I think this was the final straw for me, 'cause now i wanna strip my '14. Perhaps vinegar patina? hmmm... ...

I pulled the trigger about 45 minutes before you posted this w00t :D

I approve of this.

SWEET!

I now have official Derek approval!

Doesn't that mean you send me a BK9 like you do all the other mods you approve of?

And BRL... you lucky man. I love knowing a new blade will appear at my doorstep. Let me know how that cutlass works out for you, I've had my eye on one for a while. It looks like a chopping BEAST. I have basically chosen the War Sword because it seems a bit more versatile, and because I think it might baton better, but that doesn't mean that I don't still want a cutlass at some point :).

We'll see, I'll bet that I end up ordering it within a week or so (the war sword).

In other news, I've been waiting for the prize from mooses contest to show up, so I race home every day after work to see if its here (because I'm not tracking it, I have no idea when it will get here). And also, because of the nature of the contest, I have no idea what will be showing up. I mean, he just said it was going to steel, and probably sharp. So it could be anything from a razor blade to a BK1 and I'll have no idea until it gets here. I feel like I'm 9 again and waiting for christmas morning :).

I've never had any of these issues with any of my Beckers. Cool mod though I like the pattern on the patina:thumbup:

Sorry the photo of the mis-ground tip is really bad. By the time I remembered to get a photo of it, it was dark outside, and my indoor lighting is not the greatest. Hence the flash, and the bad photo.

I'll try to get a better one later. Also, if you take off the grivory, you can see the blade bending to the left (might try snapping a photo of that as well).

Thanks for the kind words guys :).
