Until today. Got my Darex Work Sharp after only ordering 2 days ago. (thanks National) man does this thing rock.

I was up and running in about 2 minutes. Practiced on a well used Gerber EZ out (probably 20 years old). After another 2 minutes it was wicked sharp. Next was my 10 year old G10 Leek to see how it worked on some real steel. Took a few more passes on each side but the is only another minute or so. Again, great results.

Finally it was time to break out the XM-18, It's the knife I have that most needed sharpening but I was afraid to screw it up on my old Lansky, but the others were so easy on the work sharp I was quite confident. The 20CV took about the same number of passes as the S30V of the leek and it was good to go. Looks like new and slices paper like a razor- success!!

So if anyone is sharpener-challenged like I was look into these, they are a great alternative without breaking the bank. I guess the biggest down side to some may be being limited to a 20° angle and possibly the convex edge, but my results have been even better than I had hoped.

I have a Work Sharp. It does work well if your OK with a convex edge. You do have to be careful as it can eat steel pretty quick. And a slip near the tip will round the tip for you. I use mine for my machete, big field knife, and my kitchen knives. It sharpens them pretty good. On the rest of my knives I use my Sharpmaker. I know I wont eat a lot of mettle using the Sharpmaker.

Definitely watch out for the tip. I rounded off the tip of my bk2 now I only use it on cheaper knives.

It eats steel at a rate that you can't believe. I've seen people hog off more steel in 3 minutes than I would in one year of regular manual sharpenings.

For those of us sharpening challenged it works great. So what if it takes off a little more steel. If we can get something sharp that is what counts. I have had mine for several weeks and have sharpened everything. As I have learned to use this I have learned a little about sharpening and have been able to sharpen a couple knive by hand, great fun. Enjoy your Worksharp and your sharp knives.

No one is sharpening challenged, its just now you have options to use a guide or some powered equipment and its no longer something you need to devote time and effort to.

We made it a few thousand years hand sharpening, I doubt anything has changed in the last 50 years.

I got one of those too. Really like it. You just have to be careful at the tip. And use the coarser belts sparingly.

I like the 1800 grit belt, free hand without the guide is perfect for quick touch ups.
A few light passes at the proper angle and its back to shaving.
