So I've been EDC'ing my new ZT0200. I went back and forth for awhile between the ZT and a Spyderco Military, knowing full well that I would eventually get both. Some of you may recall the thread, it's only been a few weeks or so.

Anyway...the knife is not as large nor as heavy as I expected. Just about everything I read includes the requisite "this thing is HUGE!!" comment. Many people say it is simply too big to EDC. Well, I've been carrying it daily....without leaving my CQC-8 at home either.

The difference maker may be the fact that I virtually always wear the same style of blue jeans (carpenter) and use a very handily located pocket on my right leg, above the knee but well below the regular right front pocket. This is where the ZT goes. Having it's own pocket is nice.

However, I still believe that it would carry alright in an ordinary jeans pocket, so long as you don't mind having to reach past it to get to anything else. It really isn't a bad EDC, IMO. Yes, it is big, mostly thick/wide. Yes, it is heavy. But so what? I weigh 180+ pounds and already carry pounds of stuff daily (gun, other knife, keychain full of tools, flashlight, etc) so what's a sub 0.5 pound knife going to do? And the difference between a lightweight EDC and the ZT is, what, 4-5 ounces? I gain that much weight when I drink a partial glass of water for crying out loud.

I say don't worry about it being too big and heavy to carry. If you can devote a pocket to it or don't mind crowding I say go for it!

The 0200 is more like 6-7 oz ;)

But I'm with you, if I'm not running around in Nike clothes, I'm going to carry a big, bad folder. :D Too many weight conscious people here I guess...

If I am running in Nike's, then it's going to be a lighter knife though, I still use common sense...

I agree completely, too. Even though the weather warmed up around here and I'm dressing lightly again, I am still carrying an Extrema Ratio MPC, which has got to outweigh my ZT 0200.

I carry an XM-18 which I believe is heavier, so the 0200 size ad weight wouldn't bother me. I've never owned one, but I have played with them and I could tell I could carry them just fine. People tend to use relative terms like "small", "huge", "light", etc and forget that many of us aren't coming from the same perspective.

I agree, I like bigger folders my EDC rotation is my ZT 0301 (8+ oz), Strider SMF RW-1 (6.7 oz) and Strider SMF CC SW (5.7 oz).

I also have an 0200 and have carried it. It's definitely big and heavy as folders go. But I agree that it's not too big or heavy to carry comfortably, with certain conditions:

1) I have to be wearing a belt. I often don't, and when I don't the 0200 is too much, makes my pants not sit right- it's subtle but still irritating.
2) I can't be wearing jeans. I don't do baggy, down-around-your-buttcrack jeans, and for the jeans I wear the pockets and pocket opening just aren't enough for the 0200. A Blackout, or even better a Leek is more suitable in that case.

When I'm wearing khakis or cargos with a belt, sometimes I don't even notice the 0200 is there.

The ZT0200 weighs in at 7.7 ounces. Like you, I have no problem carrying the 0200. Goes into my right front pocket all by it's lonesome. It does take a little getting used to it if I have been carrying my Kershaw G10 Tyrade for a while, but nothing I can't get used to after a day or two.:D

Btw, I think warp was saying that the ZT weighs 4-5 ounces more than a lightweight edc. I think the Military he mentioned weighs around 4.0 ounces, so the ZT would add an additional 3.7 ounces to your edc if switching between those two.

Ahh... I get it now.
I was like, it seems much more than that...

Bingo. Nearly 4 ounces difference between them and even more if you compare to something smaller like a para, tenacious, leek, grip, etc.

I've got my 0300 in my back pocket as we speak (because the front pocket's got my customized Bump in it... :D ). It is kinda hefty, but it still carries well.
I wear tight jeans... there, I've said it... (think Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler... remember when snug-fitting pants were considered masculine? Well, chicks still dig it. ;) )... and it still carries just fine.

I ordered a satin finished 200 from knifeworks, and like it so good, I ordered another one. These knives feel great in the hand, and are put together like customs. The price is not to bad either.

I have my 0200 for about 2 weeks. I never bought it with the intentions of EDC. It’s (FOR ME) physically to big and additional weight when you have a brick otherwise called gun holstered to your belt with spare mag. I need that pocket. Keep in mind that sometimes my Spyderco Native or Benchmade Striker get on my nerves. They are light but long/wide.

However, it did meet my expectations as price as quality. I have carried it around the house (occasionally whipping it out to cut a stray thread:D) and when taking out the trash. That G-10 is so rock solid with the classic Onion blade geometry. I’m also a big fan of 154CM. It’s my only ZT.

One more thing. When you carry this knife tip up, it disappears in your pocket. This to me is amazing. When you pull it out of your pocket (as I do for every one in the family.:grumpy:) They are amazed that it was in my pocket. Then I have to pass it around to everyone to play with. Every friggen new knife I get they all want to see. :D

I'm getting old enough that I don't buy jeans for how they look on me, rather how they work with my EDC rotation of stuff. If they are tight enough to look good, they probably won't fit my larger knives, like an Offset, Tyrade, or even a BM 730.

I still have some tight jeans, and when I wear them (for my wife;)), I tend to use a sheath for the larger knives, or just slip in a Protech Godfather, Leek, or similar size.

I have a few carpenter style jeans, and I love them for the fact that I can fit a larger folder in the low pocket, and still have room for a slim folder at the top. No need for a sheath.

Daniel

The weight of a knife never bothered me once I started carrying a firearm, and all the other junk I pack around daily. 0300 baby. :D
