For you fellows that already have 'em, is there an edge on 'em that is sharp enough to strike a firesteel on? Also How does it compare to say a Ratmandu in form & function? Any help is much obliged!!!

Love my SAR6, it's a much better slicer, cutter and chopper than the Ratmandu because of the convex edge profile. Not sure about the firesteel, I usually use the little scraper that came with mine, it's easier than using a knife.

Thanks Gear! Is there any, say non-rounded edges on it? Like at the butt? If so, that's pretty much what I'm looking for.

Congrats! I've been eyeballing the SAR6 as my next purchase as well- every knife that comes directly from the company these days should be very sharp-the Bossman cranked up the QC a little while ago as far as the sharpness detail goes. The ones that I've recieved since that time came with "scary" sharp convex edges-hairpopin! I've seen several new knives on the forum with recipients who comfirmed the same result. As far as the Ratmandu vs SAR6-I can't help you-haven't owned either model yet. Yet. Someone with more experience will post I'm sure.

If the knife doesn't come standard like the way you want, you can always request custom work through Garth at the shop and he should be able to make it the way you want it. Expect to pay a little more when doing this.

The grooves on the thumb ramp are perfect for firesteels. You're going to love it. I've never had such a versatile knife in such a perfect sized package. Big enough for chores bigger knives than it can handle and small enough for smaller knife tasks. Chops and slices.

Sweet!!! Thanks fellas! I've got a Ratmandu, & as far as midsized camp knife, it almost fits the bill. My only problems with it are the grip is a little thin for my hands, & that i haven't stripped it so I haven't used it to strike a steel yet. With the Sar, I don't have to worry about the coating & the grip appears bigger, so it should cover the required needs. Thanks again ya'll!!!

the sar-6 rules,,and the grooves on top are made for firesteels, very sharp.the edge and tip blow away the ratmandu in terms of sharpness and function.its bigger and heavier than the rmd,but if that doesnt bother you then i think you will love it:thumbup:.

Yeah, the weight difference doesn't matter much to me. I've got a cgfbm that I'd love to hip carry, but that's just not really feasible. That's a LOT of weight to hump back in the woods on your belt. I could see strapped to a pack, but I'm thinkin' the Sar will be the new belt-carry, outdoors blade!

Is there an edge-- mine came only a little while ago and it was freaking razr sharp. I really think it is this specific blade and grind that just goes nicely together- but im no expert. Havnt heard many dull sar6 stories. Mine was the only Busse or swamp that actually bit me hard-so far. Yours will- its a matter of time. Heheh. Re: RMD, I love em too so dont get me wrong and I own 2, but you will see what a few hundred dollars more will buy you-and in INFI no less. Just my .02 GRATZ on the blade man. What grips you gettn? I got black/green g10's and it looks really sweet.

Yeah I got the green/black too! I load my strops with Flexcut gold polishing compound. The same stuff I use to sharpen my carving gouges with. It's the best polishing compound I've found. It makes my convex edges sickening sharp! As for the factory edge, I'm sure it's up to par, but what I meant by sharp was any sharp corners to bite into the firesteels to get a spark.

You just can't go wrong with a SAR 6. Still my one knife solution if push ever comes to shove. ;)

They're pretty....

They chop better than most others their size....

And after all of that, it still does this. :D I would say it has an edge.

The whole SAR family. 8, 6, 4 on the left and Squatch, 5, 3 on the right.

I believe this is what you are looking for and it is in a very handy place for a safe grip as well. ;)

Thanks loads for the pics AZHam! I really appreciate it! And that's why you're a hog!

Dang, Very nice collection. This is making me want to order one sooo bad. I'm gonna need a third job to satisfy my new Busse addiction

Went & picked it up at the post office this AM. Needless to say, I'm tickled with it! This'll be my new bushcraft/camp knife! Don't know who Beef is, but he can sharpen a convex edge!
