G'Day,I was looking at my 4 blade Schrades and I know I should remember but how come there are 2 different length Schrade Walden 974 Congress Patterns. Why did they make two versions of the same 4 blade pattern number? One has shield and one without.
I put them with the 44OT Workmate for comparison.
I know the 974 was removed from production in 1964 and they made 4000 Special Edition in 2001 however neither of mine has Special Edition on the main clip blade. Anyone know?
12 blades in 3 knives a bit of a handful to photograph so I made them do synchronised swimming. Hoo Roo.

Excellent looking group of Congress knives Larry, all three that Schrade made together awesome! I don't know but a guess is that the deep grooved bolster Congress was an earlier knife compared to the slim grooved model, which was made later to bring it in line with the other later made models. Only a guess though.

That Congress with the bone stag handles is a sweet one. I especially like the style on the bolsters. The 974 is a fairly uncommon visitor here and on Ebay, but there was an outbreak of them around Christmas last year from the Connecticut area. They are a neat pattern, a very symmetrical knife.

Hope you don't mind me jumpin in on the fun here. Another delrin 974 with a couple of the Workmates, one from the 1991 era, the other from the 2001 revival series.

If anyone has been reading the Jim Parker thread over in traditional, the 44OT from the CKKC was a purchase from Silverladdie, and of course it came highly touted, with a used car salesman's description, when likely it was a SFO they messed up the etch somewhat. Still a very nice knife.

Thawk, I think I saw that outbreak as well, if they had a buy it now option they were the ones, I missed out on that due to heavy expenditure elsewhere, awesome looking knives the Congress.

Ealier during the week I received a flyer from a Schrade supplier who was still touting USA made Schrades, they still had some of the rarer patterns available, I was suprised to see they listed 61OT and 44OT, called them up and sure enough they told me they had both in stock, so I asked them to confirm 44OT & 61OT USA made, "yes was the reply" so I placed an order for one of each, I'm still somewhat suspicious about someone having a 44OT still on the shelf, I'll be sure to let you guy's know exactly how this turns out.

How many Band Aids did it take opening all them blades? :)
