I got my first case knife this week (also my first traditional). A yellow cv trapper, and now im not sure i can see a point in time where it wont be in my pocket.

The problem is im poor. So while i save up money for my next case i wanna see some knife porn to help me decide what pattern im gonna buy next.

Let the pictures begin!

My precious...

This was taken soon after I got it. Now 5 years later, it's starting to show its age with dark blades and dinged bolsters.

I am looking for a rounded bolstered version of the same style at the moment. And I've always wanted a Case red bone peanut...

You already have a two-blade with the Chrome Vanadium blades, why not try a great three-blade pattern in Case's Tru-Sharp stainless.

I'm partial to this sowbelly in cranberry bone with what they call their silver script shield.

Well, what kind of life style do you live? I always try to match my knife with the life. A knife at home on a sturdy coverall pocket on a farm won't really do in a urban office, or suburban situation. Kind of clothing worn is another good guide. Jeans, business casual, work, or hunting garb are all very different. It took me quite a while to finally learn this, (I'm a slow learner) and I used to own knives that very rarely got carried or used. I finally got rid of eveything that didn't fit in, and now use 100% of my meager knife collection.

I once read in a Consumer Guide magazine car issue, that you should buy a car that fits what you do 75 to 80% of the time. I took that to heart with a lot of things. Like carrying a knife that does most of what I need to do on a daily basis, and leave the defending from Chinese comando's or surviving in the Alaskan bush for a year out of it.

Only you know what's really comfortable for you to carry. But if we know a little about you, it makes it easier to advise.

Carl.

Want a good cheap knife?

Everybody should have a Sod Buster. It may not look pretty, but it's probably my favorite Case.

His handle is collegekid, so it's probably safe to assume that he's a young 'un who is currently going to school. That means jeans, shorts, and even sweatpants. If that's the case, then the whole spectrum of patterns is fair game.

Hows this?

Im going to college for a welding certificate, don't know if this is really what i want to do but it i do enjoy it. Im considering the military (gunsmith), but our current commander in chief is really putting a damper on that. Im a hobbyist knife maker with 2 blades finished. I like knives i will use, not ones that i feel i will break. I dont abuse my knives but i have no problem doing some dirty work with them. Im not a huge fan of small blades unless they are on my neck or keys. I have no problem carrying around big knives (think cold steel ak full size or crkt m21 04). I never have just one knife on me, if i have a slipjoint with me i will also have a locking folder or a fixed blade to go with it for tougher jobs. I carry my knives to school but i keep my locking folders and fixed blades under 3 inch blade length so i can argue that its main purpose is utility. Im a martial arts fan and enjoy practicing any practical methods of hand to hand combat, but i rarely carry a knife for self defense because i realize the legal consequences and the impracticality of it.

I would go with a large Boker stockman (7474) carbon blades, can be found for about $35, I have one that I have used for work ( trades) camping & in the kitchen for years, I have Case and Moore Maker stockman knives also and I feel that price ratio to value the Boker wins.

If the CRKT M21 doesn't bother you then stick with the 4+" frames. You'll like them. You may want to check out the Case backpocket, but I'm sure that it's in your price range.

I'd use what you got for a whole and just stick aroun here for a while. Eventually certain patterns will really start to sing to you. Checking out the "old knives" thread above is also a lot of fun and can really give you a handle on some old traditional patterns

Exactly how i came by the trapper, i spent a long time creeping through the traditional section to figure what i wanted first ;).

I agree with Pete, a good stockman will set you off just right if you are really looking for your second. You can always go through the "What traditional knife are ya totin' today" thread for ideas as well.

I e posted this pic on another thread but if you like the cv trapper how about a mini trapper for when you don't want to carry something so heavy

Of course everyone needs a peanut and the tiny trapper is excellent in an office/ school type environment

If you want to check out patterns you can get Rough Riders for cheap that are decent knives. I've had some real nice ones (passed on now).
