I'm very curious to know, if infact anyone has modified a backpack. Maybe doubled the stiching, added a stitch with kevlar thread or added something?

Made new straps and belt for one of these around 1990.

In a different direction I made some of these frame and fuel tank bags earlier this year. They are from 1000D Danish military cloth off the roll. There's a set of panniers too but I don't have a pic handy. When I get round to it the next job is a lightweight hydration pack. Seems quite straightforward.

I had the idea and its likely to goof up, to back up the stitching on a maxpedition bag with either black paracord thread or kevlar thread. I like to make things my own. I know the material is stronger than me, proved that with a used edc organizer. I figure if a person of considerable strength has trouble ripping it, why not make it even stronger?

I've modified a few ALICE packs over the years by deleting the radio pocket and ALICE clip loops and adding a bladder pocket and attaching the exterior pockets from a donor bag.

So instead of having the 3 exterior pockets it had 4 or 6 of them.

I've also added pockets to the lid and made a couple lids "floating" so they held gear up top better.

I added a grab handle to one made from a cargo strap too, that was a PITA, I bought a speedy stitcher after breaking a couple needles working on that.

Hot glue is a friend when adding stuff. Just glue it in place and then stitch over the glue.

You don't want the stitching to be stronger than the cloth. If something's gonna rip, it's much easier to repair the stitching.
