A couple of weeks ago my girlfriend Marjorie and I were talking about the ABS tests and how I want to learn to forge, etc... and it came to her attention that there are just a few women working at that level... she thought that it would be cool to learn how to make knives (and we all know that it is), so we started talking about it. Last week, I showed her the basics of using the grinder as I made a little wharncliffe EDC type knife. After that, we started designing something she wanted for herself. In this case, it's a santoku style kitchen knife. We didn't have a lot of time to work this evening, but we got the blade roughed out and will probably get to grinding the bevels sometime this week. I think we're going to go with either a convex or flat grind. Anyway, here are a few pics from tonight.

We'll keep ya posted as we make progress.

Thanks for looking,

Very cool! My wife made a knife once. Well....I guess she didnt actually finish it. She didnt have the patience for it. That and every time I tried to help she said " I wanna do it on my own". Oh well. Marjorie's knife is looking good.
Have fun but dont let her take over your shop:)

She's pretty excited about it. I think she understands that it can't be rushed or forced. I started a similar knife with her so I could show her the steps on mine first, then let her go at it on hers (and she's a natural on the grinder!).

Keep here interested in it... that way she can clean up the shop and keep the shop beer fridge full ;)

Nice!! Good to see a lady getting hooked!

Man how cool is that... My wife turns her nose up at most of my hobbies (it doesnt help that i'm very "passionate" in my teaching style...

Thanks for the support! I had a lot of fun, and I can't wait till I get another chance to work on it. We'll keep you updated on the progress. - Marjorie

Welcome to the forum, it's always good to see more women making knives.

I'm going slow with my new girl, I'm going to ease her into it. :D ...She runs away when I say martensite right now, but she saw a ladies knife I had cut out and wants me to finish it for her... it's a start
