So my Utilitac II spent a week outside in the back yard. It was Halloween and I was doing some last minute yard work. It must have slipped out of my pocket while putting stuff away in the shed. A week later I walk into the kitchen and it is sitting on the counter. I had not put it there. It was all wet. My wife found it in the grass while taking the garbage out. It didn't fair to badly for sitting in the cold and the rain and frost for a week. Just a little surface rust around the thumbstuds, on the blade, and on the pivot. Of course I knew there would be more when I took it apart...

What kind of washers does it have? Looks like PB, right? Well, it has some super thin teflon (or some plastic) ones along with the PB ones! Kind of cool I think.

After removing all the internal rust and polishing a bit around the pivot, everything came back together just fine.

for the pricepoint I love my utilitac II. Sharp and holds a decent edge if you cutting up boxes or light duty stuff. I might stone wash or acid etch my blade to give it a custom look ( i work in a lab so i can do it while running experiments lol)

Nice pics, man! I like how you just recreated the first shots

I know they had double washers on each side; I suppose it helps with the smoothness. My Utilitac was one of the smoothest knives in my entire collection.

Right! And now I know why. This is the first time I have had to take it apart. I am really surprised about how much you can crank down the pivot and it will still stay smooth. Fires out fast and with an authoritative snap!

Held up pretty well for being left in the weather.
How did you clean the washers??

Thanks for posting all the pics.

I used to crank mine till the blade was off-center to the lockside, and it was still smooth as all hell! Not to mention it literally felt like a fixed blade when open.

Interesting that they use dome head screws with matching inlets in the scales. I haven't had either of mine apart yet, but I figured the internal screws would be flat heads to fit under the scales. Thanks for the great pics!:cool:

I found an Aluminum beer can in the woods while hunting that was 20 years old. Looked pretty good.
