So, my wife bought me this TiSpine Damascus

It's gorgeous. Seriously, it's one pretty knife. Actually, everything about it seems fantastic, outside of the lock sticking a bit. I much prefer it to the Sebenza I bought, FWIW.

The lock does stick a bit, though. Will the lock get less sticky with a bit of break-in or is the stickiness on my new TiSpine a problem?

I'd hate to have to send it away, it's so pretty I find myself just staring at it:

Congrats. A real beauty. The Damascus pattern on the spine is rad!

The stickiness will go away with sharpie treatment. Unfortunately, LionSteel didn't design it with the hardened stainless steel insert on the lock bar like they did with the SR series.

I'm 99% sure it was one of your posts that got me this knife. I'd seen it here somewhere, and then I was looking at it on a store site and my wife said "oh, that's pretty--you should get that one". I decided to think on it, she decided to just buy it for me ;)

Both the knife and wife are keepers. :)

That thread is: Damascus TiSpine & SR-2

I'm getting the TiSpine with the new Fate pattern Damascus and matte titanium but that won't be until June. The shiny frames are more attractive but are fingerprint magnets.

That's the only reason I don't have one yet. Hopefully the Aluminum version will fix that for me.

TiSpine is a Robert Young Pelton design and even his DPx Gear HEST/F folders have the same issue.

I just received my TiSpine in matte purple this past Monday. I absolutely love it. The lock is not sticky, blade opens smoothly yet with a little resistance. Kinda like a heavy door. Absolutely perfect. Your Ti is amazing. Congrats.

. . . and I'm also happy to report that a few iterations of sharpie application along with obsessive-compulsive level opening and closing of the knife since I got it seem to have reduced the lock stick and made it even smoother opening.

It is a fingerprint magnet, but so far I'm loving it.

Thats it...I have to make my wife buy me one now. :D

Sounds like a reasonable argument to me ;)

In other news, the knife is breaking in nicely. After cycling it a bunch the stickiness has mostly disappeared and the knife is smooth as butter. I love it :)

well those pictures and talking to ramzar just convinced me to buy a damascus tispine!

Beautiful knife. I'm kinda new to knives and I cannot purchase a higher end production yet, but I always love discovering a new one to consider for my first purchase when it does come around. Great pics.

I couldn't carry that. Too good looking.

Wife is definitely a keeper, in case you were wondering. Congrats.

I have the same model evilgreg posted and I have to agree with his assessment. I love this knife, so much so that I sold off my sebenza. For suit/office and special occasions this is the one! Mine is just a little sticky still, and at times one handed opening is a little tough but is not at all gritty, just a nice strong detent. For what I use this one for, I am not so concerned with the superfast flick out anyway...prefer to open slowly in the presence on non knife people. This one really sings though, and I haven't been so worried about fingerprints. Not so much of an issue to me. And the polish is beautiful with the lizard damascus. I have had almost all my ti knives altered in some way (mostly anodized by Maprik) but this one I am leaving alone just the way it is.

Im new to the knive scene, so forgive me if this is nonsense. Wouldnt you want a lock to stick a bit on a friction frame lock type knife? Beautiful knife BTW. Im seriously eyeing a tispine for the near future.

Those TiSpines always look great, now if only they'd produce it in a lefty friendly version.
