So on Wednesdays...

Tomorrow is a Wednesday, and I really want a GSO 4.1. I can't really be sure if I'm parsing the Survive! buying process correctly based on the things I've read, so I don't want to miss out due to not understanding something. My guess is that I would be refreshing the Survive! homepage all day every 10 minutes or so, then fumbling around trying to navigate it while everything sells out. Hoping those who are familiar with the purchasing process can help me out.

Basically, where do I need to be (online) and at what time tomorrow to potentially buy something, if anything does indeed go up for sale? What is the best and fastest way to snag something? And is there any way to figure out what is going to be on sale? I am trying to read between the lines checking the production schedule, which seems to suggest that maybe, just maybe, there will be 4.1s available?

Thanks, all!

Survive should be updating the production schedule today I believe. That will show what's available tomorrow and at what time. I rushed a few weeks ago thinking I had to hurry but they had 4.1 and 7/7 seconds for sale for a couple days.

Check this link:

Watch the time zone since Survive is on PST right now.
You probably won't know exactly what is available until the sale goes live.
Some weeks they don't post anything for sale, but often they offer a few 2nds of whatever they are producing at the moment.
I hope that helps. There is also a weekly sales thread that somebody updates when they notice new information.

Thanks for the info. This whole process trying to score a S!K has given me some anxiety...heh...

Like gee, I could buy one on Ebay for about 50% beyond retail cost, but I haven't even held one before. How do I get one? What if I don't like it?! :) Halfway joking here; not quite that dramatic, but you get the idea.

Now that you got your 1st gso just a minute ago you will know why they are coveted. Congrats on the 4.7!

Lol, thanks. You're stalking the exchange too, huh? I missed out to you earlier today because I went to take a piss. :D lol.

Yeah, so actually I'm happy to get a 4.7 in place of a 4.1 I think... I'm not even sure if you bought a 4.1 or a 4.7 earlier today, the title and description said two different things.

Tbh, I would have been happy snagging anything up to a 5.1. I saw someone listed a 5.1 with Sagewood sheath here for $375 about a month ago, which I thought was a nice deal, but I didn't have a job (starting my new one Monday) at the time. It was sold on Ebay a few days ago for darn near $600 iirc!

Mine was a factory 2cd 4.7, you got your hands on a factory 1st also in bone linen which is nice. You are going to love the grip on that one.

Bone linen! I was wondering what those were. I thought it was some kind of G10. I'm happy to hear that, though. I'm excited! Now to decide whether or not I should try to additionally snag one in 3V (my first choice). 20CV is probably as much knife as I'll need in a sub-5" blade, however.

Btw, what makes yours a factory 2nd? I'm looking closely at the pictures and it looks flawless to me.

Hard to see a flaw on a lot of them but it could be any number of very minor cosmetic flaws but of the 2cd gens I have had that are 2cds none have had anything worth mentioning.

Wow, I'm so impressed with Guy's production standards. This is one of the major factors that convinced me that I need to try out Survive! products.

I should amend that a bit, flaws could be something like an uneven grind or a flaw in the micarta or a micro pit or ding somewhere on the blade. Nothing that would keep it from performing like a pro but enough to keep it from being a safe queen for collectors. I have 2 2cds that no matter how hard I try to find a flaw I can't. Others have had some of the mentioned flaws.

I mean, I love my Bark Rivers, but they routinely have those flaws and others that are more serious, such as cracked handles, etc. Anyway, not trying to bash on them, but those are real issues. I'm glad that there are makers who take the most minor flaws seriously and hold themselves to that kind of standard.

Edit: maybe it's not fair to make that comparison as factory processes and production methods can differ greatly. All of the flaws I've had with my 7 BRKs have been cosmetic and should not effect use (well, a little concerned about some of the cracks on one of my burlwood handles, but not concerned enough not to use it) and all of my knives are users. Anyway, we will see if my Survive! can surpass the love I have for my Spartan Blades knives. Can't wait to see.
