So tell me about the Boomerang

I got mine and let me say... this feels amazing in the hand. I admit to not knowing a lot about khuks, and I love learning about them. This place is great! I like my WWIIs, the Bura is an animal and the Kumar is just stunning (can't imagine using it, think this will be tucked away as something to admire with the eyes).

Anyway, the Boomerang just feels natural. Ergonomically it just seems to be an extension of my arm. It balances well, the curve of the blade seems to make it ideal as both a chopper and as a weapon. I don't know how to describe it other than it feels very natural. The WWIIs feel like you are holding a big knife. Feels good, and the knives are just amazing, but to me it feels like I'm holding a tool. The Boomerang doesn't feel like that... not sure how else to describe it.

What is the history of the Boomerang? What is its intended use?

The only changes I would make would be to add maybe 1/2 to 3/4 inch overall length, maybe add 2 to 3 ounces of overall weight and make the handle a little thicker for my hand. Otherwise this just seems to be close to perfection to me.

Thanks for the infos and feeding my addiction. :D

I gave mine to a friend, it was just a little on the small side for me. I'd like it to be around 17-18 inches and around 35-40 ounces:thumbup:

35-40 ounces?

I guess I think in terms of weight... can't be too light, but when throwing gear together to make an emergency kit, ounces become pounds...

I wasn't sure of the ~15 incher I received from Auntie but I have found the handle design and size to be plesant and the curve nice (coming froma fan of 18 inches of AK).

It's a winner in my book!

I'd like to see a longer one as well. 18" and about 28 to 32 ounces. Anything heavier and the benefit of the weight gets negated by fatigue. Well for me anyways.

The one I played with was nice but for me I like a more gradually curved blade for field work.

That said it worked fine.

The heavier ones are really tough on the hands when they come back

(get it "boomerang"? You throw it and then this huge hunk of metal comes flying back . . . . .never mind, I'm a moran):p

I was thinking moron myself... ;)

Agreed, something that heavy would not be ideal for a backpacking situation. Right now though I am really into huge chunks of curved steal that chop.

If they made an 18 inch seems like a lot of us would be fighting for it. I would love to see and 18 inch boomerang.

The closest HI blade in the size you guys are talking about is the excellent 18" Balance. Hits like a freight train and has the blade forward balance you need. Curves nicely too. Some guy here asked about the kamis making one, based on the original 13" model. Can't remember his name... :D;)

I'd have to agree with that. I love mine. It's 18" and 32 ounces with a spine just shy of 1/2".
