I was the guy who bought my "used" small Sebbie off eBay last week for $205.00.

It was advertised as an almost mint small sebbie born on April 26, 1996 and was purcahsed "from Chris at the Solovang Custom knifer show back in '96." Well, this thing is a BEAUT! near mint is exactly right, there was one hairline "patina" mark buy the pivot pin and that was IT! Also, the blade is NOT bead blasted...it is high polish.

I can practically see my face in it. It is gorgeous...is this a typical blade finish from back in 96? If not...what do I have here...a limited run? Anyway I look at it, this baby is gorgeous and smooth and so sharp I put the blade near my arm hair and the hair jumps off by itself!

Please advise...

David,

Congratulations on the great buy. It looks like you have the old style small (classic style before it was called the classic)
These usually had the ATS34 blade with a high polish. Also, there is no blue anodizing on the spacers or thumb studs. The thumbstud differs from the current regular version since it has the gripping surface on the bottom only.
I have the Large version from 1996 also and the blade is the nicest of any production or custom I own.

Good luck with it.

I was wondering about the ATS blade... I had read about that before. Th only kicker is that mine DOES have the blue spacers and thumb stud. Any more info?

Did the knife come with its "birth certificate"? That should tell you what type of blade steel you have. To be honest my ATS-34 Sebenza performs as well as my BG42 ones. I was very sad when CRK switched to the tumbled finish, because they have one of the best satin finishes available. My original style Sebenza has a better satin finish than many custom knives. I have come to appreciate the "stone washed" finish for its ability to hide scratches.

As far as I'm concerned it's putting it lightly to say that you got a deal! You got a steal. Congratulations Sproles.

My small old style also has a blued stud and spacer, the stud is is the "half-knurled" type they used to use.

You got a deal, alright. Did the clip I sent you arrive yet?

You got such a good deal it's hard for me not to be a least a little bit jealous.
