.. I don't own any expansive knives, but am thinking about getting one soon!, so it's "OK" to carry a knife just for the sake of it? just because I like KNIVES? It's not like I'll use them to open boxes and stuff like that. The reason why I talk about this is cause I am not sure if one really "NEEDS" to carry a knife, there is really no purpose other than SIMPLY wanting to carry a kick ass knife cause it look sgreat and stuff.

Do I make any sence? should I just shut up ?

If that is a good enough reason for you, whose opinion really matters? I guarantee that if you start to carry, you WILL find uses for it, you WILL CREATE uses for it. As long as you are not threatening people with it or scaring them for kicks, by all means carry. Just check with your local police first so you don't break any laws. That is part of the reason I only carry folding knives.

Almost everything I cut with a knife on a typical day, I could probably tear apart with my teeth, fingernails, keys, etc., but knives do such a better job, and they can be sources of pleasure beyond pure utility for those who have a heightened appreciation for them. The great majority of people today live almost normal lives without ever thinking about carrying a knife for any reason, then there are those like most of us here who think about knives almost as often as they think about sex. The bottom line is that if you are fascinated by well-made knives, you will have no trouble coming up with a reason to carry one with you every minute; if not, there is always video games.

Great! thanx a lot for the feedback guys! I really appreciate it.

Your response is the only one not appreciated man.

That's just fine with me Misko. How is it that a Hitman (your occupation according to your profile) knows so little about knives?

You almost got it. There are many actual uses for knives not just cutting boxes(however if you become seriuos enough you'll end up cutting open many knife boxes) but you'll find purposes.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.

Children should not play on the internet unsupervised.

Whoa man? what crawled up your ass man? no need to be a dick to me man, I am trying to be friendly and all I want here is to learn more about knives that's all. "HITMAN" under my name is a joke, I like to joke, humour is a great thing, you might want to consider using it more often. Why are you "sarcastic" and "DICK" to me anyways?

Jesus, if you don't want me here say so, I'll be gone in a second, but please don't be a dick to me for no reason.

Firstly, seeing as how you have been a registered member since Oct 99, I am sure you are aware that personal attacks are not allowed.

Secondly, you say you use humor, well others do as well. Perhaps many of us are not as clever as you,

but we sure try.
So quit with the name calling and act your age.

I came here in good faith, and I get ridiculed by a few people here for no reason? and you tell me to take it easy?

OK Misko, if you feel I have ridiculed you, I apologize. I think you have given me (and others) plenty of reason to take you a little less than seriously.

Among the tools I use (besides knives) is Sarcasm and Irony. I did not personally attack you in this or any other thread. I did poke a little fun at some of your incredibly naive statements. How can you come here to a serious knife forum and make statements about how the only purpose for carrying knives is as a weapon, or because the are 'cool'? Your assertation that there is no activity in our daily lives that might require, or be optimally performed with a knife, is ludicrous on the face of it. It marks you as a not being a knife knut (our affectionate term for those afflicted by knife addiction).

So I assumed that you were either a troll (a creature of the internet that practices hit and run tactics seeking to stir up trouble just for the fun of it), or a child. Mature teenagers are welcomed here. Ignorance is generally well tolerated if someone seems to have a genuine desire to learn. Making ridiculous statements and starting multiple threads about basically the same issue, and getting upset by some responses is Not welcomed.

If you are serious, and want to learn more about knives, and share our passion for them, and can refrain from name calling, and being offensively clueless, you are very welcome to hang out with the rest of us.

Some words of advice for readers Young and Old: Do Not take yourself, your words, or the words of others too seriously. This place is recreation. It is Not the real world.

About me: I like to play around with language. I generally try to say something serious, but often employ various techniques of humor to be more interesting, and to try to get people to Think. I do not always succeed. I am an equal opportunity offender. If you get mad at something I write, you probably have missed my point.

Anyway, you are welcome to hang out here at BFC. Stick around, learn something, and try not to be stupid. I promise to do the same

That sounds good to me man, and I want to say sorry if I called you names or anything like that, it's just that I got mad and that's all.

Please know that I am not a "child" I am 22 years old, and I might sound a little bit "weird" or "naive" because English is my SECOND LANGUAGE! so it's kinda hard for me to express my feelings and opinions without the use of words such as "cool" and "killer"
smile.gif
besieds that, I am a very nice person and totally down to earth.

Sorry if I flooded the board with same threads, it's just that I don't know much about knives so I have MANY MANY questions some of which might sound stupid but you have to understand I am a rookie when it comes to knives.

Anyways, everything is cool now, and I am going to do my best to stay civilized on this board and stay "cool"

I have no problem with you or with any other member here, I hope this will be a great learning experience for me!

Thanx a lot! and CHEERS!

Razoredge: Maybe, but everyone should get to make at least one mistake. I'm not taking back anything I said, or apologizing for My bad behavior (I don't think I said anything wrong at all, actually), but only for His perception of my posts. Lets see what happens next....

Edit addition:

Good response Misko! Have fun and Learn. That's what Life is for anyway.

Misko hits on a major nerve among liberals who would ban knives, guns, etc. just because they don't have a need for them.

Sure, it's OK to carry one just because you want to. There are some laws on the books to limit type and size of the knife, though. You should know how to use it, to be safe and in case the need to use it arises.

- you don't really need a Rottweiller, or even a dog at all;
- you don't really need a truck, this 4 cylinder is all you need, or maybe a bicycle at most;
- you don't really need that gun or knife, unless you intend to hurt someone;

Reasonable arguments aside, the day someone else dictates to you what you don't really need is the day your freedom erodes.
