So, the Kai collection is growing -- and a question

Well, as much as its putting me in the poor house, I gotta say I'm proud of my little collection of Kershaws. Don't know if I'm ready to be admitted into the sacred circle, but I'm getting there. Its kinda funny, but when I first started collecting, a few years back, when all I saw were the standard Leek's, etc at Wal-Mart, I didn't really have a whole lot of respect for Kershaw. Now, however, I realize the truth -- that they obviously make some damn fine knives, and even their "budget" blades are some great pieces of cutlery.

I've got a second CB ZDP-189 Shallot on the way, but I've still got a few more to find........a Ti/ZDP Leek, an S110v Shallot, maybe even a Skyline or two.

I'm on my way to getting on the ZT train, as well. I had a ZT 0560, but for some reason, I just didn't really get into the groove with it like I expected to. The detent was so weak that if I turned it blade down and tapped it, the blade would fly out.........super smoothly, of course, but it just needed to be much stronger. I ended up selling it, but I'm missing it a bit now, and I have a feeling that I'm going to grab an 0560CFCB sometime in the future, along with an 0566. I really think I need to get a ZT 0200. Also, can anyone tell me which Zero Tolerance is it that has the Composite Blade with what looks like upward facing shark teeth? I'm kinda fond of that one, as well, even though I've only seen it once.

In addition, I was lucky ( and I mean LUCKY ) enough to get in on a pre-order for a ZT 0888Max, and there is no doubt that one way or another I'm gonna get my hands on an 0777 and the lovely0600.

Anyway,You don't see too much talk on these forums about Shun cutlery, but I absolutely adore my Shun Kaji SG-2 damascus knife set and my Shun Ken Onion VG-10 core damascus chef's knife. I'm sure there are folks who are into custom made stuff who can find reasons why its better, but for a production set of kitchen blades, they are wicked sharp, hold an edge like nothing you've seen, and are beautiful, at that. So, it was actually my Shun kitchen knives that caused me to take a second look at KAI -- and ZT and Kershaw in particular.

So, my question is.......what was it that caused you to start seriously looking into Kershaw and ZT? Did see one and just decide you had to have it based on looks? Did you see or handle one at a store or that owned by an acquantance? Did you grab a lower end model and love it and then work your way up through the line-up?

And lastly...........what is your favorite KAI blade and why?

Have a good one!

J

Well I thinkthe zt composite your talking about is a 350 composite blade.

And the thing that got me into kershaw was my dad.
He gave me his skyline and I was hooked.....

Oh and very nice collection!

My favorite KAI knife would have to be the blur series. My first knife was a Tanto Blur, and it's handled so much of that first knife abuse, and it's still trucking on. I think that the Blur series has so much personality. Some criticize the thin liner, but I've had no problem with it ever. My close second would have to be the TiLT.

You like the Blur better than the TiLT? 'Cause I've got a nice Blur I'd trade ya'...;)

Ya.... Like that's gonna happen!! lolzzz

I started collecting the Leeks and have an S load of them, but the rare ones are so hard to find.

So, time to find a ZT 0777 :)

The only Blur I'd even consider trading is the purple one. Not the spiderweb purple, but the magical purple one. And I have to like it better, because without the Blur, I wouldn't have gotten into knives, which means I wouldn't own a TiLT, or any of the other beautiful knives I own.

to the OP's question I didnt even realize ZT was part of KAI when I saw the 0200 and had to have one. I had a few kershaws at the time and when I found out the 0200 was part of kershaw I took another look at the rest of the line and have been hooked ever since

You found a CB ZDP and a S110V Shallot?

Nice score!

Nope........not yet.

Actually, I've managed to snag 2 - ZDP-189 Shallots. I did recently talk to a guy who actually has ( 3 ) THREE!! S110v Shallots, but he won't sell me one.

I'll find one, though!

You have a nice collection there. And congrats on finding some gems to add to the pile.

I worked my way into the point I am now. Started with a Kershaw Blur, then I found the S60V blems and the CB blur so I got those. Then I wanted a 0301 and it just progressed. And I have about 20 favorites, cant seem to pick just one.
