So the Vex wasn't any good?

Seems like the Benchmade Vex didn't have too many fans. {deal spotting removed} so I was thinking of picking one up for a beater. Would a Spyderco Persistence be a better knife? Would rather have the Spyderco FRN UKPK but since that thing is coming out on a similar schedule to that last Guns'n Roses album I'm looking for another not too intimidating but capable and affordable EDC.

What does the last Guns and Roses Album have to do with anything..lol...The vex is still a decent knife for the money....

Everyone has their own opinion and many people loved the Vex. It wasn't a super popular model but if you search the old threads, most of the people who have them really like them. If you like the shape and design you can't go wrong because it is a great knife for what it is.

Loved mine as a work/utility knife. Had 2 of them, and later gifted them to friends. Mine were excellent quality all the way around. No problems, and it took abuse very well. Only minor downside was the clip. I prefer tip-up carry.

Vex must be one of the most underrated Benchmades for a long time. If it had been produced in the states it had been an classic. Cheap, superstrong, very comfortable in hand, massive liner lock, perfect sized folder (for me) and solid like a vault. The steel is very good. I´ve abused mine a lot (it´s my beater knife) and it will hold the edge for a pretty long time and it´s easy to sharpen. The bad thing is slow deployment and the fact that it is made in China. Here´s a picture of mine when it was new (a year ago).

Great knife--especially at that price--but it wasn't quite as good as some other knives out there in the same price range. Also it was the first Benchmade made in China, and they axed the whole Red Class this year, so the Vex was one of the designs that got killed. I'd pick one up, though. :)

Made in China or not, the Vex is a great knife for the money. I prefer the blue and black class Benchmades for sure, but to the friend that received it as a gift, to him it was the best folder he had ever been given, and it still sees daily use after two years at least. Yeah it's tip down and all, but with a rounded spine and well made blade that holds a good edge it's IMO comparable to the Tenacious and gives it a good run for the money.

I agree. I owned one. I carried it and used it, but sold it. Not because it didn't perform well, just because I was clearing out my collection to make room for other things. I thought it was a good value:thumbup:

I personally loved my vex and for the money liked it better than the Kershaw skyline. It was little on the heavy side but felt very solid. I used the knife when I needed a tough knife I knew could handle it.

I got my VEX so sharp that I'm afraid to look at it wrong. It took no time to sharpen and it's on it's 2nd complete sharpening by me. The factory edge held a long time but when I sharpened it I got crazy with the bevel angle and made it too thin. It held but I did need to re-profile it for it's intended use as a utility knife. Interesting thing about it is the strength of the G-10. You don't see them that strong on knives at this cost.

The Spyderco Tenacious is equally up to the job. I assume the Persistence being a smaller Tenacious is just as good.
