Hello Friends,
Some of you might recall a thread I posted earlier this year titled So She Says... in which my bride, after many years, suddenly took an interest in knives. At least so much as to decide on a knife she wanted for herself.
Well, the other day, while we're both at work, she sent me a text message to inform me that one of my favorite Case retailers has an upcoming sale this Saturday. This was certainly out of the ordinary. By and large she might mention that if there's a knife I'm thinking about, we can afford X amount of dollars at a given time. Basically, permission to buy something so long as it is at or under that amount. But to actually inform me of a knife sale? That's never happened.
I asked her how she knew that and she just sent me a little smiley face. I figured we must of gotten an email notification so I checked. Nope.
What is she up to I wondered...
Now, let me say, I've been having a rough go lately. I don't want to get into the details because this isn't about all that but it is the basis for the story.
So then she says (or text), "Did you know the Case Medium Congress is out for a limited time and hasn't been made in many years?"
"Yes," I respond.
"That's pretty cool," she said.
"It is."
And that was that. I figured she was hinting around that I could buy a knife or two during the upcoming sale and that she might like the Congress for her own. I asked her a few questions that night but she mostly shrugged them off in a way that played into my theory.
But then today, I come home from work and there's a little box tucked up under the porch chair. And the label is from that retailer.
Well, it turns out she bought me the below little gem to cheer me up. It's stunningly gorgeous and actually feels really great in hand. I've pondered many times buying one but feared it was a little too small. It can be so hard to judge things on the internet and try to compare them to what you might already have. I kept passing on it but my goodness am I glad she didn't.
Up to now, I think she's bought me one knife and then decided I was "too picky". But wow, she nailed this one! It's a touch bigger than the Medium Stockman, which I'm glad about, but still in my "pocket-friendly" druthers.
Yep, a couple of the blades rub. I don't care. Yes, the main Wharncliffe is a touch difficult to get your nail into. I don't care. Beautiful, highly functional knife! Why is this not a regular pattern???!!!
What a boost when I really needed one. I'm very blessed. It's not the material thing so much as the sentiment.
And, she said I can still get something during the upcoming sale! Totally a material thing!
Anyway, some comparison pics for those who might be wondering:
- Medium Stockman
- Medium Congress
- Trapper
- Canoe
- Mini Copperlock
One day at a time my friends. No matter what comes at you, just keep putting one foot in front of the other and sometimes, out of nowhere, love and kindness will comfort you and bring you joy.
