3/8" thick as far as i can remember was only used in the moab and the off duty up until a short while ago. im not sure if 3/8" infi was available, or if it was just such a painful looking process that it just wasnt desireable to do...

but since the new bm is apperently going to have a 3/8" thick hog version, and the 3/8" thick satin jack variant that came out - what are the chances of seeing a semi/production run of something else in that thickness?

specifically the satin jack. i want one. but since i have the hogsjtacle, purchaseing a custom seems a little out of the way for a catagory of blade i basically have filled already.... and i shouldn't be spending the money on custom blades anyways  :grumpy:

but if one was offered here, i dont think i could hold back. i'd have to buy one. i'd have to....

i bring this up mainly because the HOGFBMLE is going to be a production run blade at that thickness. that seems like it would open up the possibility of another production run at that thickness....

(if there is actually going to be a 3/8 hogfbm, instead of 5/16)

well the rumor is that it will be 3/8 inch thick, but you must realize that all the LE's and satins are hand ground. Machine grinding takes more metal away, so the LE's will be basically like custom shop stuff, if I am not mistaken on how things work there. but since I don't know squat, who realy knows what's going on.

i was under the impression that the LE blades were hand finished, removing the pitting and things like that.

i cant imagine they would do a run of battle mistresses if they had to hand grind the entire main bevel. the cnc beveling is probably a key factor in being able to do this at all. hand finishing is a pain in the butt, but i wonder if it would be possible to do a run of 3/8" thick coated blades.

for my purposes, while i prefer satin finishes because i find them easier to take care of if their rusting. but if i could get a coated blade for a little less cost, and less time in the making, i would go that route.

well any blade can be coated, and I could be wrong but I doubt your gonna see a production 3/8 inch BM coated. I bet they are all satin or DC. But I am not the authority so it is just my guess.
