After some research done I finaly ordered one of the end of June specials - the silver mounted AK 15´´ by Kumar.

I asked HI to send it after 10th July because I expected about one week delivery and planned to be out in the begining of July.

Then the disappointment came first.
I was told the HI sent the knife on 13th July but no mysterious triangular box during more then a month. I gave my hope up and was sure the knife was stolen.
Another possibility was the package got stucked at custom office. Uncle Bill told me I was the first from Czech Republic who ordered HI khukuri. So maybe the custom officers had to keep their eyes poping for a month before they decided to free the package.

The surprise later:
I went out for a week long trip on July 15 and what a great surprise after I came back. A note from postman in my box saying I have a package from USA on the Post office.

The knife was sent July 13 and came to my local Post office August 17.

I returned on Saturday night so I had to wait until Monday. What a pain. But finaly - here it is:

Very good condition. No rust spots to clean. The horn handle has few little cracks or peels but I think it is natural for horn handle. The blade is great. Forged perfectly and symetricaly. Should have been a bit sharper out of box. Never mind. First occasion to try my skills.

I was affraid if it would not be a bit heavy but it rests in my hand comfortably. I can feel good balance of it.

Now I have been admiring this my first khukuri for three days so far. I keep wiping out my fingerprints from the blade, picking out remains of red polishing pasta from the handle carving, wiping all the knife again. Then I go out in the garden trying to find some unwanted branches to test the blade. Then, after I return home, another cleaning, wiping and examining.

I showed it to my friend and he seems to get infected instantly. Looks like another order is about to go to Hi from here and not only from me.
There wont be only one khukuri in Czech Republic soon. :D

I must add that my new khukuri is not admired by men only. Several women friends say it is beautiful.

All and all this is a beautiful knife and I am going to use it a lot. Someone told me that khukuris have their own ways of coming to ones hands. This is one of them and I am enjoying it very much.

Beautiful piece. I, like Bruise, have one of the Kumar Kardas with the carved horn handle. Some soap and water with an old toothbrush will clean much of the red rouge out of the handle. Then you can treat the horn with any type of lotion containing lanolin. This will help keep the horn from cracking. Welcome. :)

Glad it finally came to your hands.
Hopefully, the next will fly straight with no delays.

& welcome.

What a heckuva first khukuri.....I'm jealous!

soak the handle in a jar of mineral oil. That will help stabilize it. Then you can scrub the rouge out with a toothbrush as noted above - after that, lanolin.

Occasional oiling/waxing to retain the nice finish. Nice thing about wax on horn - makes for easy polishing by hand.

Congrats again!
