I want to add a subhilt to my collection. Bruce Bump sent me this photo of one that he has right now.

Description:
Ancient walrus tusk handle, narrow threaded tang, acra glassed for tight fit,
red fiber spacers, pure nickel and 1018 san-mai guards, spacer and pommel (hot blued so the 1018 shows up), pure nickel name side plates (soldered in place). Blade is powder 1084 and pure nickel in resquared basket weave with 1084/15n20 damascus edge. Blade finish is brownells baking lacquer and hand rubbed to 4000 grit. The entire knife can be polished with 4000 grit for restoring.

7 7/8" blade length
13 1/4" approx. OAL
3/16" thick blade at ricasso w/distal taper
nickel silver and stainless threaded swivel

No sheath at this time, but one would be added (not made by Bruce).

So what do you think? I personally like it a lot.

I love that nameplate thing. Elegant.

Some knives talk a language that speaks to you personally. This one has your full attention. :)

Your call, but I have a hunch...

very nice looking piece - nice piece of ivory on it. i also really like the subhilts that siska makes, nice curve to them.

The blade is lovely, but the handle is off.

Subhilts are probably one of the singularly most difficult pattern to produce. I am seeing a mildly Broadwell-esque influence, but the flare at the pommel end troubles me, as does the subhilt. It is SUPPOSED to be shorter than the main hilt, not longer, and this throws the whole package out of whack.

This is the reason why Loveless is THE man, even though he is a cantankerous old fart whose denture movement at Blade Show West 3 years ago had me giggling myself silly like a 13 year old girl.

Think sexy knives, and read The Legends of the Loveless Logo, and revisit your opinion. It might change.

Best Regards,

How can you pass that up???? :D I like to live vicariously through your collection.

He who hesitates is lost ;) - pull he trigger , I can't see you being dissappointed on any level - it is a distinct and attractive piece, made by a very talented Bladesmith.

That's a beauty. I prefer integral subhilts but that is one very artful knife anyone would be proud to own.

I love it - bold and beautiful. The Loveless look is not the only one that works. Seems like a great opportunity to pick up a knife on hand with no wait. I love it when that happens. ;)

That is an awesome looking peice of steel. The trouble with knives like that is when you hold them in your hand its realy hard to let go of them.
