I was thinking(and it doesnt happen THAT often) what you guys do to pay for your knives.
I'll start;
I work at a newspaper printing firm as a technician. Service, Maintainance and we get a call when things stop or break. Everything form the presses to a broken toilet light, even someone's shoe last week. I'm mainly a electricien but we are expected to do a bit of everything. At night it can be a it hectic when a press stops and the deadline is closing in but it keeps you sharp:)
Its a great job with lots of freedom and variety. It learned me a lot about mechinical work.
Also love the shiftwork that comes with the job. I have more sparetime than when i was at school :) And i can surf BF when everything is quiet at night, like it is now.

Cool post!

I am a custom integrator. We integrate your sound and video, HVAC system,

security system, lights and just about anything you can think of with a

system you can control from anywhere in the world via the internet. Basically

we give your house a brain!

We also do a lot of high end home theaters, high end sound systems, and

whole house audio distribution. I play with grown up toys all day!

It is a stressful, but rewarding job. A lot of traveling as well. Luckily wherever

I may roam, BF is never far away! I really don't know what I did before it!

I work the the government, in an intelligence-related capacity. Great job and a lot of fun, too!

U.S. Army Infantryman. Currently a Instrutor/Writer hear at Fort Benning.

I swear at airplanes. Sometimes I even fix them (mechanic). I do a lot of moonlighting to pay for knives/toys.

I install and service garage doors and openers so you all don't have to get outta the car when it's cold and open your garages by hand :)

IT technician, High School and Adaptive rowing coach, also boatman/repair main at the same boathouse, spend a lot of time working on outboards and repairing rowing shells, along with anything else that breaks. :)

Both part time, both very flexible, and the boathouse has good fishing, allows me to borrow boats whenever and I keep my kayak on site, plus high school kids are hilarious to coach.

Good thread!

Wish you lived closer to me (WV here). My garage door switch is seriously ill and probably needs a transplant. Could really use a pro to fix it.

I am an F B I AGENT!!!

OK not really but I never get to use that movie quote. I'm a professional nerd. I write Windows programs in C++ and C#. I'm writing software for the accounting field. Last job was writing software for the enterprise security field.

i'm currently recuperating from vision problems and eye surgery.

once i'm healed and get glasses so i can focus again i hope to return to work.

but for 24 years i've done computer graphics, prepress/printing, advertising. all things that had me chained to a desk staring at a screen.

don't know if i'll be able to return to that tho.

i've also wrenched on motorcycles and guns fir fun.

I was a butcher for 16 years and i worked as an assistant circulation director for a hearst newspaper for 4 years in the middle of that...guess i needed a break....as of june i am a shop mgr. for a garmet printing business(family owned)

Computer tech /business owner. I have been in the computer gig since 1994, basically. I currently own the local Apple joint, and act as tech for all the service here, as well as the ins-and-outs of business. Not too many in this neck of the woods hold both MS and Apple certification, so it keeps me busy.
I've also held sales jobs (computer, audio/video, and auto parts), and pulled wrenches. In one of my previous jobs, I was computer tech/draftsman/designer/warranty tech/internal documentation writer/installation instruction writer/maintenance guy/mcguyver/etc. I also did phone support for field techs all over North America who installed our products (electronic manufacturing house- mostly automotive- for GM, Ford, Peterbuilt, etc)

I'm a professional student lol

I'm 2 years into university at UBC and am working towards a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering... and if all goes as planned I'll be getting my Masters in Engineering and MBA in the next 10 years.

To pay for school (and knives :D) I generally work random warehouse jobs like I am right now! One day I can afford these $15,000 pieces of furniture that I move haha

Im a truck driver, work for a small mining supply company. I take truck loads of explosives(blasting agents, dynamite, and detonators) to rock quarries and mines. Not a bad gig lets me purchase knives and guns.

if it's just the switch and it works fine with the remote, idds are that it's either 1. the connections, 2. the wire or 3. the switch itself.

get up on a ladder and make sure the screws that mount thne wire to the back of the box are not loose. don't need to get crazy, just make sure they're snug.

inspect the wire for dings or nicks. especially anywhere it makes a tight bend.

usually the switch has screw terminals for the wire on the back.

if the switch is actually bad you could replace it with a doorbell switch if the hardware store doesn't have replacement door switches.

i just replaced my GDO switch with one that has a motion sensor. saves me from needing to turn on the light when i go out to get the dog's food. the switch sees movement and turns the light in the GDO on.

not a door pro, but studied electronics in HS and college until i got bored with the math. and like the screen name suggests i'm usually good at fixing stuff. (tho there's a stack of other reasons for the name)
