I got this Queen Cutlery #11 a couple of years ago as part of a trade and knew the condition when I traded for it. I know it wont see any pocket time in this condition so what would you guys do? Have the scales replaced? Or just let it be a desk drawer beater? The damaged side appears to have been scorched or melted by some type of chemical. The section of the blade on that side that is exposed has a cloudy appearance also. This is a sweet knife to give up on. Help me out guys.

If I end up with a knife that I won't carry because there is something about it I don't like, I get rid of it or try to address whatever it is that I don't like. That being said, I'd sell it, trade it, give it away or try to have it repaired.

If it were mine I would probably carry it and use it with no fear of damaging it.
If not, I would send it to someone like Seals for some nice replacement scales.

I have a Queen #2 jack with scales in similar condition, my solution was carry it and use it. If it bothers you, send it to me and I'll carry it for you. ;)

Sharpen that thing up and use it like you stole it.

Carl.

Yep...

Ya might soak it with mineral oil and see if it does anything. I don't know that it will, but there is nothing to lose. As Mack mentioned, it would make a good candidate for rescaling if it bothers you to much.

I've found that with so many great pocket folders available and on hand, that if ever I am somehow dissatisfied with a knife it's either given away or sold. Make a project out of it if that will make you feel good about it. If you can "make it yours" through TLC then it could possibly boost up the ranks to one of your favorites, and you'll smile when you remember how funky it was before you fixed it up. Or, you know, just ditch it and score a GEC or something :D

Good luck!

If it were me, I'd just carry it.

What I would do with that scale is buff it,use buffing fat/polish on a soft rag mop ( mask up your bolsters though-you dont want them blingy-yuk), you may be surprised, then sharpen it up, and get used to it being in your front pocket

Yep, I'd agree with these guys: use it!
No fear of scratching it up, if it's already a little worn in the looks department.
It's still a solid tool, and will continue to give you many years of service.
With its "weathered" appearance, it has more character!
Nobody will confuse it with their knife...
If you don't like it, I can help you "dispose" of it. ;)

Ride it until the dam wheels fall off..lol. It's a user with
a lot of character, Oil the joints and enjoy it! ...imho

Wouldn't surprise me, if it was a display case knife at some time in the past. Pretty common for one scale to change color, if only one side is exposed to direct sunlight. It appears to be the mark side on this one, which makes sense.

At any rate, I agree with others here. Use it!

That could be the most useful knife you have. We all some beauties that don't get much pocket time because some prople are afraid they will get dust on them or banged up a little. Heck with that knife you don't have to worry if it gets a little scratched. Use the heck out of it.

That knife looks like a good candidate for a dye job. I would give that a try before replacing the scales.

WOW.... That turned out great!

Thanks for posting pics of your new old knife Keith. I hope it gives many years of good service.
