You guys are using warm water and some dish soap, followed by thorough drying (maybe with a blow dryer), and some Tuf-Glide on the pivot bearing? Am I missing anything else? I plan to sharpen and clean my CRKT Kasper this weekend, and I want to do it the right way.

Yeah, yeah, I know, do a search...but I wanted to confirm what I have learned from all the searching

I tend to blow the pivot clean with canned air after the tuff-glide, and treat the blade with tuff cloth. I usually sharpen before cleaning, as well.

i agree with wild bill, use HOT water,it will dry from its own heat.I used a folder on a pumpkin last nite,I rinsed it with hot water, mae sure it was dry (bead blast blade),and used 3 in 1 oil on it.real clean and slick now.

I generally rinse in warm water. Then swing it around a bit to shake the extra water out. Tuf-Cloth the blade and use a blow drier to dry off the inner parts of the handle. I generally avoid blow-drying the blade because I'm afraid the heat might damage the temper slightly.

I clean with HOT soapy water, tooth brush, and blow dry with hot air preferably. Then Tuf-Glide and Tuf-Cloth. Your on the right track.

Comrade Chang,
Don't worry about your hair drier messing with the temper of your blades. If your hair drier could get that hot, you would have NO HAIR left on your head

The temps that hair driers operate at are not NEAR hot enough to disturb the temper of your knife.

SHOCKING CONFESSIONS!
I've gotten my Spyderco Wegner pretty nasty & simply thrown it into the dishwasher, dried the pivot as well as possible as soon as the wash cycle stopped, applied tuff cloth & tuff glide with no ill effects.
I'll put on my asbestos boxers & await the flames...

Thanks a lot guys! My damn Sharpmaker/Tuf-Glide/Tuf-Cloth package STILL hasn't come...hopefully I will get it tomorrow so I can give my CRKT a good cleaning and sharpening!

I have found pipe cleaners to be very handy over the years. For light cleaning I often use a little rubbing alcohol on a pipecleaner to clean the insides of folders.

Yah, hot water, then if it is a folder, I flush the pivot area with WD-40, dry overnight, then a drop of oil.

Tuf-Glide is the active ingredient in the odorless mineral spirit carrier in Tuf-Cloth. It is a thin film corrosion inhibitor. Most people find it to be insufficient in a high stress application such as a pivot pin. Especially Sebenza owners (I've no idea why).

You should use a PTFE/oil or PTFE/grease combination for the pivot pin/washers if it feels sticky after cleaning and lubing with Tuf-Glide. Or one of the myriad of other concoctions suggested for pivot pin lube over then years on this forum may be used.

I amazed at the number of Bench Made users here on the forum, all of whom are faithfully adhering to the non disassembly policy of BM. Congratulations.

If your going to wash it - the water should be as HOT as possible. I washed my small Pointguard this weekend, but I went a bit crazy - I took it apart and cleaned it.

BTW for everyday cleaning, I just wipe down the blade with Hoppe's #9

I didn't know you really needed to do all that stuff. I usually just run the knife under water at any temperature and then put the knife back in my pocket all wet with nothing to protect the pivot. Tap water doesn't rust ATS very fast at all, and it does abosolutely nothing to cheaper stainless steels like 420hc or in the case of your kasper aus 6a. I use a buck mentor in the kitchen and I've left it in a cup of water for well over 72hrs with no visable rust or darkening. Citrus fruits and salt are what rust and darken steel quickly.

I just wanted to say that I take all my one peace knives apart to clean them For real am i a real man yet??

I like those little brushes that come with electric shavers -- long bristles at one end for inside the handle and short scrubbers for the pivot and lock areaa. Work great. They're the only thing I still use from my days with electric shavers

I go with Steve Harvey WD-40 and those who use tooth brushes, pipe cleaners, and I'll add Qtips.
