Awesome job you're doing over there Doug. I only hope that some of your amazing work inspires a similar attitude towards knives here in Australia. There are a LOT of sheep here who seem to be afraid of everything that vaguely resembles anything other than a kitchen blade.
I often pull out my little Rodent Solution at BBQs in public to cut sausages apart etc. and I often get the reaction of "you know they're illegal" or "that's a weapon!!".
Sheep. They believe what the pop mainstream media tells them, and often form their own twisted opinions based on the ridiculous sensationalism in the pop media.
I then remind them of the 10" carving knife they have dangerously wrapped in a plastic bag for anyone to gash themselves open on. But, apparently that's different. Carrying a small knife in my hand, in full view of everyone, safely stored in a heavy duty sheath makes me a murderer and a bank robber.
The reality of the law here is different though. As far as I know, it's all about the intent, or the circumstance. Carry a knife into a bar, nightclub, the movies etc. That's an issue. And understandably so. Take a knife camping, or fishing, or hunting, or to a BBQ or wherever. All good. As far as I know anyway.
Then I show them some artwork. mmmwahahahaha
