I'd call it deal spotting, but.....that's not really a deal, is it? Seriously, $18.50 for shipping? That's, like.....25% markup for putting it in a FREE box!

I got one too - was looking for a "backup" keeper so I could justify using mine since it is NIB.

Mine came unused....but I don't really have safe queens. Hell, I don't even have a safe. I gotta say, though, outta the box the Brute kinda sucks. The edge is beyond obtuse, and even though it's heavy and hits pretty hard, not having a cutting edge makes it not so useful for, like....cutting things. If you're gonna use yours - and I hope you are - IMO you're going to need to put an actual edge on the thing. This is what mine looks like with a ~70° edge ( yes, that's right: 70°! - like I said, it comes with an extremely obtuse edge) that actually cut the curls in the photo. Not possible with the factory "grind" (at least the ones I've seen).

I guess some people can be collectors...but that doesn't preclude you from using what's in your collection. I doubt seriously you could break it, unless you beat it with a rock or something equally ill-advised. My view is: What's the point (or the fun) of owning a Ferrari if you never take it out of the garage? Yes, they aren't made anymore. Yes, they're somewhat rare. But they are not $3K+ art knives. A knife named "the Brute" kept in it's box? Not for me. And keep this in mind: Jay Leno drives everything in his collection.

The Brute is a Beast piece of Steel, if swung correctly it act's like a small Hatchet with a built in wedge, tough grain wood then lummpy comes into play

some things need to be used, like a car...

knives don't. sometimes you just get extras, and they're waiting for their forever home, or ultimate purpose.

some of them are investments. so, you cache them, and wait.

in the case of pristine extras, esp when you have working versions, there's no need to beat on each and every one.

That is how I see it - one to keep (forever) and one to use. I only do this with certain items - kind of a "two is one, one is none" thing. Or at least that is how I justify having multiples of the same "production" knives.
