So why a Peanut?

After reading quite a few posts on this site, I can see that peanuts are a very popular carry. Since I've never handled one, I'm curious as to why. Let's hear it. I like the looks, and have considered getting one, but I want to hear from experienced peanut carriers.

I like the peanut as it rides well in a watch pocket, it gets nice and sharp and will cut through anything. The slender blade cuts right through.

I sometimes carry one with another knife because there is pretty much no one in the world who would get freaked out by a peanut. They are also small enough to not even notice in carry, and functional for most tasks.
I usually pull my peanut out when I need to do smaller tasks/be mindful of sheeple, and use my Shirogorov or my sebenza when I have to do more cutting...or just feel like it ;)

Honestly even something as small as a Peanut will do most EDC tasks that average people have. Whether it's what you want to carry, or you prefer something larger, or tactical, or "tacticool", is all up to you, and that's really why we carry msot of the stuff we carry.

I find a bigger handle to be good.
Quite often it is more important that a bigger blade.
For cutting tape, opening envelopes and other light tasks a peanut will work fine, but when heavy cutting needs to be done, I find that the small handle just doesn't work as well.

There is that.
And people are generally not likely to freak out over seeing one in use.

Thats the main reason I carry mine. No one freaks out over a yellow peanut. I like mine, but I honestly would prefer a one layer thick pen knife version, as even in a watch pocket, it can get in the way in my pocket (IMO).

Good quality choice for a knife though.

Agreed. That's why I just got into the perpetual habit of carrying 2 knives. If you don't have to do much heavy work, then honestly I probably don't need to carry my larger knives...now, that isn't to say I don't carry them anyway.

Many days I don't have to do heavier cutting either.
But I carry a knife that can do it anyways as well. :)

And you never know...I didn't think I was going to need a flashlight heading out during the day, but we ended up in the woods after dark, so it turned out to be a good thing to have.

I don't carry a toolkit with me everywhere, but having a few handy items that don't get in the way is just a good idea.

Definitely brother!
I usually have a light, key tool, 2 knives, and some other miscellaneous peices on me daily. And of course sometimes a firearm depending on where and when I'm going.

Pretty much the way I feel and as a result, a full size trapper 4 1/8" typically or a 3.5" Barlow is about as small as I go if I want to be able to do more than open mail. My regular carry slipjoint is a 4.25" GEC #42 (two blade). But if you aren't a knife person and just want to have something sharp for the occasional use, a peanut works.

I bought a peanut a couple years ago because I thought it was pretty. I carried it exactly one time and in the drawer it went.

Going back to using two hands to open and close a knife was about as welcome going back to crank starting a car.

It's a nice knife. I like to carry a small one in my watch-pocket quite often, in addition to my EDC.

it passes airport checks for one.

Wait... what?

Did something change about airport security checks that I somehow didn't hear about? Because this would be a game changer for me, because one of the worst parts about flying is that when I get there... I don't have a knife (which leaves me feeling useless at times when you reach for something that's not there :().

It certainly USED to pass the airport security checks as did most folders that I have ever carried in my carry on bag (usually a brief case). The only knife security ever balked at was a switchblade... I wonder why? :D
