Well...Andy didn't have a Fiddleback Friday this week, and with good reason, but the little one and I sort of did. She helped me with dinner tonight, and even helped me take some of the pics.

That is fantastic MS! Both the food and the cutlery look wonderful. You were right in that the patina is progressing nicely.

Thanks guys. The wife got me an IR remote trigger for the camera as one of my Christmas gifts, and the little one asked how it worked. So I decided rather than tell her I would just let her see for herself, and she got really excited about that. Looks like I have started training my replacement. Of course there is no getting out a cutting board without her expecting to help cut up vegetables for dinner. She has her own knife that she is more used to, but it stays in my glove compartment in the truck and it was pouring rain. So, mom loaned her the Hiking Buddy. It was the first time she has ever handled the HB and I thought she did pretty well with it all things considered.

Thanks Mark. Yep the patina is coming along nicely. It looks better under natural light than it does in the flash...but I feel that way about pretty much everything...

My kind of meal, yum. Good memories for you and her!

Thanks Rocky, it's just a variation of something I used to cook in camp a lot. Yeah, she always likes to help me, especially when it comes to cooking, and man did she get a kick out of using the remote. When she saw the thread yesterday she said "I took some of those pictures!"

That is wonderful stuff MS. As parents, sharing our time with our children and creating fond memories is indeed priceless. Then you take one step further and share with us. Thank you. Rock on MS! :)

Great pics MS! How old s your "little one"? My son will be 5 in April and loves helping in the kitchen and around the fire. He has his own fixed blade by Alan Davis

and loves to use it.

One critique~needs more garlic!

Happy and safe New Year.

Man, that looks good. If you ever come through, I'll feed you some Bourques sausage. They just don't know how to make it right here in GA. Maybe you have better luck in TN. In my experience though, the only folks that know how to make sausage are Cajuns. The butcher around here makes fresh sausage. Ewww. What does he put, what does he leave out? I can't say, but his sausage is like GA coffee. Yuk.

Thanks Mark,

I have a lot of great memories of adventures and time spent with my father when I was younger, and looking back on them those are some of my favorite memories. I hope she looks back on some of the things we do with the same feelings of happiness.

Thanks nozyk,

She is seven. She has her own custom, made and given to her a couple of years ago by John Hutcheson a close friend of mine who lives here locally. It's made of D2, has a small soldered brass guard, desert ironwood scales, and mosaic pins, and blows my first knife out of the water. Being a good bit smaller than the Hiking Buddy, it is just right for her small hands right now. But watching how she handled the Hiking Buddy I do want to get her one when she gets a little bigger. Yes, I know, it really did...but it was seriously pouring rain and I had the one clove so just went with what I had on hand.

Thanks man, I hope for a Happy and Safe New Year for you and for all of my friends here.

Thanks Andy. Yeah, I know what you mean, not everyone can make sausages that's for sure. A couple of local butcher shops make fresh sausage that I'm not exactly crazy about too. There is a farm in the next county west that is owned by a German family who grow organic produce and raise free-range organic meats. I have tried there brats at a couple of local restaurants and I need to make a trip over there. They make really good bratwurst so I want to see what else they make. That Cajun sausage sounds really good. It's been a looooong time since I was in that part of the country.

great pics and even better to see you working with your daughter.

I've gotta go make something to eat now that made me hungry :)

Thanks man, I really like hanging out with my daughter. I'm hoping to get her out and help me build a debris shelter while she is out of school for the holidays. Yeah, everyone is so concerned with knives being "weapons" that I make sure to impress upon her that they are tools first and foremost. I'll go into how most tools can be used as weapons when she gets old enough to understand concepts like that better.
