I just recently picked up another Umnumzaan so I didn't feel so bad nuking my first lefty chris reeve tanto blade. It still needs a little touch ups on the blade but for one night of work I am actually really pleased with how it turned out! Let me know what you think. Haters welcome lol

What all did you do? Looks great.

Funny, I'm not a fan of tantos AT All... Pretty much can't stand them, but every time I see a CRK tanto I just think it looks brilliant. CRK just has a pull, a gravity if you will, on my tastes that no other maker has. :o

I have a righty version of that sweet Zaan in my pocket right now, great knife!
Mine has been nuked by almost three years of edc use, not quite as nice looking as yours ;D

I work with him and he has used and enjoyed this blade.

This had the oxyclean scale treatment with some scotchbrite and oil action to get the weathered look.

I saw him heat treat the stainless hardware on a hot plate in the lab too. Turned the big umnumzaan pivot nice and gold plus all the bolts.

He followed up with acid wash and tumbling on the blade. I will have to just sharpen it for him on my stones sometime next week.
Looks sick in person!

Made me buy a 25 just to do the same.

Sweet job man!! I just got my zaan on Tuesday!! I like it a lot! Maybe I'll do a little customizing :) You just heat up the hardware to turn it the bronze color?

Yeah that's it.
Watch a few YouTube how to videos but he used a hot plate.
I bought a Sebenza 25 almost because I want to do this to my knife.

A hot plate? Very interesting. Any idea on the temp? I use the stove top flame, but on things like clips I get rainbows not consistent color.

I'll check with him in the am. We have...15-20 hot plates at work and I'm not sure the end temp. It maxed our IR gun out I thought.

950°F for about 20-40 seconds, or how long it takes, depending on temp and part heating.

You will see some changes in about 40 seconds or so but to get a darker color I left some of the pieces on for about 3-4 minutes. 1100F was the temp that I was shooting for but the hot plate used might not have gotten that high. Yes our IR gun was maxed out at 950 but I don't believe that It jumped much higher than that.
