I have been a fan of the neck knife, PSK, thought process now for a while now. I recently got a new PSK/Neck Knife, my ESKABAR. Yeah, it ain't a custom bushcraft, but, it works anyway.

Alot of us have PSK/Neck knives, what do you do with them? So far, my ESKABAR will do anything that a 3" knife will/can do. Maybe beyond that, don't know yet, but I'm gonna find out.

In a true to form, real tough situation (survival if you wish), all you have is your PSK/Neck Knife, what do you do?

Do you:
Baton for some heartwood for a fire
Make a bow drill kit
Make traps
Process game
Make cordage
And many more that my tiny brain can't think of

The best knife to have, is the knife you have, WITH YOU. So, do you practice your outdoor skills with your PSK? What do you feel your PSK/Necker can do? Do you feel limited what you can do with it?

My PSK knife is, interestingly enough, the Bark River PSK. It can and DOES do everything you listed, and takes it all in stride. I also edc my PSK a few times a week, and use it regulerly. For example; 3 days ago I batonned kindeling for a fire with the psk, It also made a fig 4 deadfall trap, and come hunting season, once again, as I have for the past 2 years, It will be my caping knife for deer, and my skinner for squirrels. I do not feel limited by my psk, and It can do almost anything a larger blade could do (cept chopping) and I use it whenever the chance presents itself.

Last time I used it: tonight at dinner to cut my tenderloin :D

I own several PSK knives, my favorite is my Turley Silver Creek. It will do all on your list, and I do make sure to practic with it as much as possible. It's not my go to knife by anymeans. But, if that is all I have I want to be sure that I know its limits and that I can use it to do want I need.

Ihave batoned with it, bow and drill set, cleaned fish, make traps, prepped food, even edc it one and a while and use it at work to open boxes and such testing the edge retention on that nasty cardboard.

I know I wont be chopping any trees down with it anytime soon, but I can be confidate that it will do what I need it to.

everywhere i go no matter what i have my izula on me with a fire steel. i would like to get a truly small psk that can fit in a tin but the izula works for now. i love it and use it daily lol. i use it for food prep, fire starting, prep work, cleaning my nails, getting out splinters lol anything.

just the other day me and my 4 y/o little girl used it to make all the components for a bow drill and then started a fire. i don't think she quite understood the purpose but she enjoyed watching and messing it up when she could lol. but i agree with you practice is key especially with the little knives as they can definitely bite you if you haven't used them a lot just do to the grip difference and techniques. i can't wait for the new izula to come out with a bit more grip :)

my WM1 serves me very well hiking/backpacking- food prep, fuzz sticks, light batoning (I use a wood burning stove), striking firesteel and cleaning fish

come fall it's my hunting knife as well, I prefer a small knife for big game hunting- the only place a larger knife works a little better is splitting the rib cage, but the WM1 does fine (just go the edge of the sternum where it's all cartilage)

the thermorun handle is nice as it grips well and cleans easily
