I'm needing a recommendation for a current production Benchmade.
I'd say probably light use/edc. I have lots of fixed blades.
Leaning towards Grip/Bugout/Balisongs maybe even the proper or Megumi but I know there are a lot of diamonds in the current lineup so I would love some suggestions from the cognoscenti. Prefer not auto. Thanks!

My opinion; Get a standard 551 Grip. With a bunch of upgrade options, including ready to wear replacement scales, this would make a great sidekick to compliment your fixed blades. There are times when a fixed blade isn't appropriate as an EDC, where a stout folder in our pocket makes a great alternative.

I'm a big fan of the -1 variants. 20CV is just about the perfect steel for a folder IMO. You can pick up one of the Grip/Mini Grip -1 variants for ~$120 pretty easily on the exchange. Excellent value if you ask me. I think the 555-1 is my favorite in the Griptilian family.
There's always the 940-1 also. One of the best do-it-all folders ever.

Thanks a lot! I've got to compare the regular and the mini, then decide which blade profile...

I like the look of the 940. The 940-1 seems like a great value. S90V and Carbon Fiber scales..

550-1 looks like a great one too.

I've seen quite a few 940-1's for $200 brand new on exchange. If you're able to hold either model in stores that would probably help. I don't think you can go wrong with either!

I have carried nothing but a 940-1 since I got it. I also have the 940-1501 and while in theory I prefer the 20CV of the -1501 over the S90V of the -1, I just think the 940-1 is really beautiful. The way the dark finish on the blade matches the color of the carbon fiber and the way the blue standoffs add a subtle touch of color... All the 940s are great, but the -1 does it for me. You can't go wrong with any of the Grips either, and my personal favorite is the mini Ritter, but as I said I have not carried it since I got my 940-1. I'll probably get a Bugout one of these days as well since I really like the way lightweight folders carry. Probably won't displace my 940-1 though.

I say get two: 710-1401 and 810-1401. They make a nice pair and they both will be long gone soon.

For light use cannot go wrong with 940-1. Those Carbon Fiber Scales are epic and show almost no wear unless you deeeep scratch them. The steel is superb as well. Lightweight, great stonewash, and more than addequate blade length for most EDC tasks.

There is also a Griptilian with 20CV/M390 with amicarta scales. Its a bit more stout and feels the hand better. Contoured handles gives u a better grip (I mean hand grip).

Large to medium hands(width of palms) 551-1.

Medium to small hands 556-1.

If I could only choose one BM......

I have smaller hands and own or have owned. 940, 940-2,940-1,NorthFork, 707,mini grip, mini barrage. Sometimes a few of each of the same models. Have handled the 551 and -1 either for dye work or father in laws they are far bigger for me to want to carry. If I had to choose one and only one it would be the NorthFork. I really think you get a lot of knife that carries well. Full liners etc. A knife a lot of people I feel like overlook. Some due to recurve, the wood scales or the ugly g10. I have successfully dyed the g10 to green, blue and orange so don't overlook the NorthFork.
