Here's a video about a knife making 'factory' in Japan. There's a ton of hand work instead of just CNC machines and robots. The amazing things are the attention to detail and the finely trained specialists for each stage.

Skip the 2 minute intro. There's a straightening process scene around 5:35 you might find familiar.

I was blown away by the precision and number of QA tests performed. It's making me rethink a lot of my processes.

That's a VERY good video. I looked for some of those knives for sale in USA but am not sure I found any. Did anyone find an example of any of those knives for sale here in USA? I'd love to see the prices of some of them.

Their factories tend to be very organized and staffed with highly trained employees. Great video 👍

From the scan that they showed the pricing ran from 20,000 yen for a petty to 40,000 yen. The 30,000 yen from the employee store for the pattern Damascus Nakari is about $230USD.

She works for Zwilling (Zwilling & Henkel). Zwilling knives are made in Germany & Japan. Which Zwilling knives are made in Japan you’ll find in the table at the end of this review, for instance: Zwilling Knives

Thanks for the links and info - Those are some VERY good knives and at $200 to $400 not a bad price.
