So you want to know what your khukuri weighs. Scales.

The subject of khukuri weights is often a topic here so I thought I would see what the going price is at Office Depot where I got mine.
It appears they are about $27.00 but I would have sworn that I only gave about $15.00 or so for mine.
Anyway they are a very useful addition to any household and serve many purposes besides just weighing your khukuris.
Barbie has even used ours to check for the amount of postage due on heavier than usual snail mail, haven't got anything back from lack of enough postage yet. ;) :D
If you check around you may even find them cheaper. It's nice they go up to five pounds so you probably won't ever overload them with a single khukuri.;)

Aarrgh. I was there spending money yesterday.

I need a scale AND a really good micrometer.

Harbor Freight has a precision measuring set, but for some things, I don't like cheap tools.

Got my anvil there, tho. :p

Good idea Yvsa! I bought a 10 lb. postal scale last year that has proved to be very accurate. I have some check weights that I bought when I got a powder scale, and it is still on the mark. I think it was around $40.

I am thinking about getting one of those hanging scales though that you might use for irregularly shaped objects, or some folks use to weigh large fish, as for some items I have it might be more accurate. It is sometimes hard to get some objects centered on the bed of the scale.

I've a postal scale also, and yes, it is surprising how many uses a scale has in a household.

Mike you can find several Mic's here The Mitutoyo Japanese Mic's are pretty fair but I always prefered the Brown & Sharpe brand even over Starret which is what the US Government used to require for any government work.
What size do you need? I might have an extra I'd let you have for reasonable but I'd have to check my toolbox. I know I have 1"-2", 2"-3" and 3"-4" Brown and Sharpes I'd let go of.;)
They have carbide faces and are calibrated to ten thousands.

Thanks for that link for the scales -- I need to pick one up.

At work we use Mituoyo calipers and micrometers. We have many calipers and a small set of micrometers to handle anything up to 4". I think Mituoyo is pretty good.

We use a tripple beam scale here at work. I got it on ebay for $23.00. It goes up to 2600g. (28g/oz, 16oz/lb) Thats 5.8 lbs. Most of our projects here at work will fit within that range.

I like Harbor Freight for clamps or an anvil, but you're right...I wouldn't get any measuring equipment there. Its a fun time shopping there though isn't it?

Ah, many thanks Yvsa. Just got a Pelouze SP5 scale from OD.

Measuring some knives and getting some surprises.... and more than a few, "So THAT's why I like the ______." Here's a few.

HI 15” VIllager AK horn Kumar- 1, 7.1- 15.5”

HI 21.5” Chainpuri wood Sher- 1, 7.8- 21.5”

HI Trihole VIllager BAS wood Sher- 1, 1.6- 15.25”

HI M-43 wood Sher- 1, 12.8- 17.75”

HI Malla wood Kumar- 1, 5.8- 18.5”

HI VIllager BGRS horn Bura- 1, 9.2- 17.25”

So,

at 25.2 oz. the VBGRS is good for wood.

at 23.1 the 15" AK moves fast, at 23.8 the Chainpuri does too.

at 17.6 the BAS is lighter than I thought.

29 oz. M-43 I remembered, and the Malla too, is on the light side at 21.8.

Interesting stuff, and thanks.
