25in Kobra, or 25in Sirupati? I've always wanted a sword, just like most kids when they're young. But it stuck to me for years after my childhood. Still want a sword, but don't have the money for it. So, why not get something about the same size, but better? Recommendations, guys?

I'd go with the Siru or a Chitlangi. You might also want to consider HI's swords like the Tibetan, Tarwar, Uddha, etc.

I have one special ordered 25" OAL Siru 1/4" thick spine Satisal wood handle made by Bura :thumbup:

Mohd.

Sirupate will be heftier, Kobra will be more sword-like.
But if you want a sword why not get a sword?
Everyone needs a Tarwar! (29" OAL, BTW)

As much as I'd looooove to get a sword, my budget is stuck and limited to $175 for the next six months or so. Until' I get this job I'm going for, I'll have to stick with what I've got. Besides, it's not like the Siru and Kobra are bad choices, right? ;)

The 25" sirus were too heavy for me. If you're a big guy or have big arms this may not be an issue for you. YMMV

IIRC, that's about what my Tarwar cost. . .just have to wait until Yangdu posts one as a DOTD.

Keep an eye out for the Japanese style swords on Deal Of The Day because they often offered at your price point.

From the comments and reviews I have read here the HI swords handle like a 'true' sword. Having said that my 25.25inch 64ounce Bhariab Khukuri feels better in my hand than either my Hawei or Last Legend Katana's!

Okay, so knowing fully that I've been infected with the HIKV, I flipped a coin, and ordered the Kobra. Yes, I know, it's a silly way to decide on which Khuk I should get, but I was down to the point where I just did not know. It's shipping to me tomorrow, though, so I hope to see it within the week, Tuesday at the latest! Besides, I know I'll end up getting all of them.

#1 : Welcome, which I should have said earlier;
#2 : Self awareness of HIKV so early means that your coin toss decision making process is just as good as any other means;

I got my first Khuk through the shop rather than a dotd offering. But all the others have been due to the 'call of the Khuk.' ... just wait, you'll see what I mean.:D

First of all Sioraiocht, welcome to the HI Forums!!!:thumbup: :D

Second of all, you should'a waited a bit longer.:p
Looky at what Ms Yangdu Posted Today.:p ;)
You could'a had a really nice Tarwar for $145.00 US.:thumbup: :D :cool: Oh well, tomorrow's another day and you've already recognized you're gonna get 'em all.:thumbup:
And losing out on a DOTD that you're really, really, wanting is something we all had to get used too. Either someone else would beat us to the punch or we'd be broke, which happens quite often to folks with HIKV.:grumpy: LOLOL...

.

I hope you notice the coincidence of saying you may want a Tarwar, me saying Yangdu has a tendency to post such as a DOTD, and the posting of such as a DOTD a day later. . .

She may not post a lot here, but she does pay attention.

My Kobra has arrived! All 25in of beautiful steel finally rests in my hands. It's my very first official Khuk, even though it's the second one I've ordered, and I am quite satisfied by it. Though, now I think I'll get something a bit lighter. Any tips?

From my understanding, the Kobra models are about as light as H.I. makes them, so you'd probably want to go a bit shorter.

A 20" khukuri will have about 14" of blade (all measurements are approximate); still technically in the short sword range IMO.

So maybe a Kobra or Sirupati of about 20" would be what you're looking for. I have a 20.25" Sirupati by kami Bura and it's wickedly quick. At 24oz it is closer to the weight I've seen for most Kobras of the same length, and quickly became my #2 favorite khukuri.

Silly me, did I say lighter? Of course I meant shorter, as 25in is a good bit of steel length. My friend adores the 12in Siru, and has dreams of it at night(I think...well, maybe not). Though at the same time, I have a CAK on the way, so maybe I should be satisfied with what I have...

Just kidding. HIKV won't let me be satisfied, and you all know that oh so very well. Thanks for all your input, guys, and I'm glad to finally be a real deal member of the HIKV afflicted family.

You're right man. I do in fact dream of it at night, but I also dream about it all day as well. It shall be mine. Also, the bamboo cutter just got added to my list.
