Soap Carving.

Thanks crosman,
That may be something me and my boys could do. They would really like doing something like that. My 10 and 12 year old fellas are itchin to carry a knife. thanks again. dtsoll:)

ENJOY SIR!

I showed it so people could use it.

Mine is looking OK, just a little fish type thing. I'm using zest soap, dont think the brank really matters. But I stoped for awhile tonight, the soap was irratating my eyes. :D

Have fun.

Soap carving is something we do a lot with cub scouts. After trying lots of options, I was chagrined to find out the best knife for it was a popsicle stick, ideally sanded or whittled to a dull edge on one side.

Damn, all these knives, and a popsicle stick works as well or better than any of them.

thanks for posting this crossman, My kids are young and just started whittling and I was looking for ideas for them. Hopefully, ideas like this will help keep their interest and make for future knife nuts. Thanks again. Pistolpete

As I recall from my Cub Scout days (around 45 years ago) you can't take very deep cuts or your blade wedges in the soap block. The thinner and narrower the blade the better. Small hawkbilled woodcarvers tools are about the best.

I haven't actually tried it, but if you heat your soap for a few seconds in a microwave oven it may be easier to work. If you do too much it will melt or sag.

I do wax carving somtimes...using the wax that comes in the tubes.
After i finish carving a design off to make a mold of it after that off too the casting machine it goes.
