I hope this is well recived here. In a recent very interesting thread, the mention of carrying SOB came up and I did not want to divert that thread so I start this one.

While I like SOB for walking carry and find it fast and comfortable to draw from. I find it difficult to resheath and I have always had concerns about security and weapons retention(knife changing from tool to weapon based on intent), be it knife or handgun. I have a CCW but have always been concerned to SOB as I feel like a miscreant that notices the weapon immediately has an advantage over me. All they need to do is let my attention be on something else, maybe the menu board at McD's and get in line behind me, one smooth grab and I am disarmed. Maybe I worry too much but the potential risk has kept me out of this mode of carry.

I do love horizontal carry on my front left, with the handle crossing midsection. It makes it a little awkward at the urinal but offer nice advantages and still secure.

I would love to hear the discussion of learned and experienced folks on how much of a concern this really should be.

Thanks,
Bill

Not a big fan of SOB carry. I had a Galco SOB for my Glock years ago, it was very uncomfortable when sitting down. Plus, I have read some horror stories about falling on your back, and doing back damage. I do like crossdraw carry, I have a Kirkpatrick crossdraw for my Kimber that I really like.

I dislike SOB carry for self defense. For short periods of time to get the tool out of the way while doing other tasks so my hands are free, it is fine. But the "printing" of it is obvious, it takes longer for your hand to travel around and back, and in my over 30 years as a martial artist, we have designed ways to halt the arm and go into a hold or takedown. Crossdraw is faster and reaction time being critical, you need that time.
Now speaking from a comfort/use carry method it is comfortable, but IMHO not at all practical for the reasons you mentioned. To even resheath into kydex, where you need not worry about cutting the sheath, I think it is awkward. Side or front for me, thank you very much!
With that long winded response, have a great day!

I can see Small Of the Back being a sob to resheath & or reholster & prefer to carry my revolver cross draw when in the woods.
Cross draw is really nice while siting, with the butt of the Ruger right there half way in my lap easy to grab.
I edc a folder clipped into my rfp.
