SOB vs. Boss Street

I have a couple of Boss Streets that I really like, including an anorexic with choil and black micarta and a thicker hollow ground version with black paper handles.

For those of you that own a Boss Street and an SOB, which do you prefer and are they different enough to own both?

Thanks.
John

The sob wins hands down for me. I dig the handle a lot more. If you have several sell one and score a sob. Then you have best of both worlds :)

I think they are different enough that you could easily find uses for both. To me, the Boss street feels like it is made for finer work while the SOB feels like a work horse that can handle larger heavier tasks.

I was going to say almost exactly what Garth said except in girl talk it would be:

I like the Boss Street because it is the right size for me to keep in my purse and have it handy for every day tasks. Opening mail, cutting up apples, stabbing open the jelly lid that I can't open, or just any excuse to be able to pull it out and show it off. The SOB is way too big and scary looking for those smaller tasks, that SOB belongs on my belt while hiking, camping, and scaring my friends.

In conclusion, you need both!

Just a gals perspective, take it or leave it, liner guy. :D

For me, they are very different knives. I was lucky enough to score both of these at Blade, I will definitely be keeping each for the reasons already mentioned.

I think the Small Choil Anorexic Boss Street makes a better hunting knife than the SOB, not to say it wouldn't be quite capable though. The edge is definitely thinner on the SCABS vs. the Competition Finish SOB, which seems more geared to be a brute with good cutting geometry.

As Lexi already said, the Anorexic Boss Street's are a very handy size for a small knife. They are big enough to handle most chores, but small enough to be easily carried. In my case, it disappears inside the waistband or pocket until you retrieve it for something.

The SOB would certainly make for a great day hiking knife, it is capable of light chopping if necessary. The handle feels very comfortable and secure, the brick pattern seems to add grip without being too rough.

All in all, I'd be hard pressed to choose just one between the two…. I must say that Jerry Busse has really knocked it out of the park with both of these knives, grail knives for sure……...

To answer the OP's question I would really need to know what you planned on using them for? Most people on this forum like to talk about owning all the different knives for different tasks, but never actually use any of them. A few people like to buy different knives with very specific uses in mind and go ahead and use them well.

I am going to assume you intend on using them. I just went through the exact same scenario between picking up a SOB or a CABS. My main purpose in the knife was for hunting use meaning skinning, butchering, feather sticks, food prep, light fire prep & general cutting. The SOB would have been only very marginally better in heavier work with wood, but no where near as effective in all other aspects. They are both rock solid knives so strength isn't a concern. With this weighed up the choice for me was easy :) The CABS arrived on monday and I have a feeling I won't regret the decision.

Full review with all above tasks coming soon...

I really like the brick pattern handle - looks like it would add grip without being terribly abrasive, especially in G10.

Well, I was in the same "which one to order" predicament about 3~4 weeks ago. So, now I waiting on my SOB. Man, I don't even have it yet and this thread has me slobbering over the Boss Street! I'm getting hooked. I have several Swamp Rats and a couple of blades from the Yard (plus two Scrapivores on order) but this will be my first INFI. It's scary, starting to think of selling some guns!

Lexi,

Thanks for the gals perspective - you put a smile on my face, during some dark days lately.

Hahah. Stabbing open a jelly lid you can't open? That's awesome.

-But nobody stand between Lexi and jelly! :D

I had that scabs and the sob. I use my knives daily. I sold the scabs and kept the sob. The sob is awesome. It's the busse I have been waiting for lol. That being said I have a cabs LE that I use as my main hunting knife and I really love it too, but for carving and bushcraft work (hell for any work IMO) the handle is just a bit to thin. I have thought about sending it in several times for thicker handles or at least getting liners to give it that more hand filling handle.

Just my opinion of coarse and for reference have have medium- large hands.

So the only real issue with the CABS LE for you is the handle size? I have fairly big hands but I don't find the handle too small. It's right on for me. The CABS is also on the large end for hunting and I feel like a SOB would be too bulky and annoying to hunt with in comparison. Both freaking sweet knives though!
