I am looking to get a first Emerson and I want a spear point plain edge. The 7A (which has no Wave) is discontinued, and the SOCFK A is available thru one retailer. The 10 is out b/c I really prefer the thumb disc.

How would these 2 knives compare (besides the Wave feature)? I have not handled either one. Thanks!

There is not really much to tell in the way of differences from either one other than ergos. They have the same materials, a similar size and blade shape so i suppose it comes down to the one you like the look of most.

I would personaly go for the SOCFKa if I had to choose 1 but they are both a good choice.

The 14 is also an excellent knife, its defo. worth considering

though the materials and blades are similar the handles are different, though i like the '7 i like the SOCFK's handle better and the fact they are waved doesnt hurt either. to be honest, other than the '12, i like the SOCFK's as much as any of the productions, FWIW.

plus, everyone has a '7, the SOCFK's are kinda scarce and lotsa folks havent even heard of them.

both are good though.

personally, i dont like spear point EKI's, not the SP '7s and SOCFK's anyway, and yes i have had a couple, prefer the tanto myself, and imho the SP ones are hard to sharpen, and i am pretty good at CG knives (or whatever they call them, )and i didnt find it to cut any better than the tantos, really.. i am in the minority on that though as folks just seem to love the SP EKI's, so YMMV lol.

Look for an M50 if you can find one. Has the best of both worlds, a semi dropped point clip style blade and probably the best handle of any EKI I have used. You can go to the EKI website and see what I mean. But like I said I have only ever seen one for sale on ebay or here and I bought the one on Ebay. Specifically a Mach 1 blade on a HMMV-K handle(I think that is what it is called). These were apparently made for Barrett rifle purchaser's but I also think they did a very limited M50 prod. run. keepem sharp
