My first thought was of Captain Wilton Parmenter's choice of "sabers at forty paces" for a duel with a German balloonist over the affections of Wrangler Jane.

Indeed. I first came here in 2002 hoping to find the maker of the knife with the bone handle in the fixed blade drawer. It was made by a knife smith in Grangeville Idaho. My Uncle Steve had it made for my Dad for a Christmas gift. It passed to me years later. Little did I know that my simple questions would turn into all this!
