top -- 250 years of experience trading stories.

center -- Sgt. Karka and Sanu join in the discussion.

bottom -- five of the full time kamis, including Bura, join Pala for some conversation.

Notice those who participated in the actual Bishwakarma puja wear the red and white Bishwakarma mala around the neck. I still have mine filed here somewhere.

Khukuri FAQ

Not many smiles here Uncle Bill. Whats up did you forget to tell them to say cheeeeeze?
Really, I know this is a very serious occasion but why does everyone seem so serious in these pics. Are they just sitting around visiting?

Sandi, the real reason that they are not smiling is Pala has just told them that each kami has to do 500 kagas katne in time for the Christmas season this year.

Bishwakarma puja is a very serious affair and not given to a lot of merrymaking. Even hough there was plenty of booze nobody got drunk or disorderly.

Khukuri FAQ

You're right, Uncle Bill. I have to ask, did the kamis find the picture taking during the ceremony to be stretching the limits of propriety, and hence their expressions?

Harry

Bill,
Thanks for the names.
I know one thing for sure: I want a knife made by Krishna Bahadur. I looked into his face with lots of magnification. I know what's behind those eyes and I also know that if it can be arranged, He will make the best knife I've ever owned.
Dan

Dan, you got the khukuris and scabbards mixed up. KB is our senior sarki and can make one of the best scabbards I've ever seen. He is getting his kids educated and they do most of the scabbard work for us.

Khukuri FAQ

Bill,
Sorry about that, I switched names and faces. I was refering to the fella closest to the camera (left side) Next to that impish character. I can't spell worth a hoot, so I was switching back and forth between the pic's and information and my post window and so got a mix-up.

Dan

Now you're clicking okay. That old fellow is a hell of a kami. He almost never makes anything anymore but will come into the shop to inspect the work of the younger kamis and to offer suggestions. He consults with the kamis on new and special projects.

Khukuri FAQ

Bill,
Yah,but.... Do you suppose he could be talked into it, if maybe some young buck did most of the pounding, etc. and left the critical points to him including the blade configuration?
Dan

Probably, Dan. He is a nice old fellow. He was deaf and I had a hard time communicating with him. My Nepali is not good and his ears are no good so I had to get a young translator with a good strong voice help get the job done.
