Hello, have a question for any '18 Microtech Socom owners, or even if you have just handled one. Is the detent on them especially tight when brand new? I got the satin tanto version today and while I really love the overall design, it's chewing my thumb to hell trying to open it!

Just wondering if that's the norm at first and will smooth out after awhile. Thanks

Mine is fine. I can't middle-finger flick it like Scoot, but that might be due to different hand sizes or just general ergonomics.

Maybe try to give yourself some time to adjust???

My '18 has a very strong detent. It took me some time for my thumb to learn the best angle of attack, during which time it chewed up my thumb pretty good.

Now I can flick it open without thinking about it, regardless of how I'm holding it, and slow-roll it open a bit awkwardly without thinking about it too hard. There's no planet where I'm ever going to be able to middle finger flick it open, though.

Keep at it! It will get easier.

Thanks guys.
That's good to hear Dadpool. It does seem to have a sweet spot/angle that 'pops' the blade out easier.

Let me add on... About 3-4ish years ago when I was really getting into the hobby, I bought a ZT 0620 and had a hell of a time opening it. I put the knife away for about 6 months..almost forgot about it...and tried it again. After trying it again, I thought it was one of the smoothest knives I had and couldn’t understand why I had so much issue with it previously. Not sure if this is applicable to you as you’ve been around for quite a few years, but worth mentioning.

Thanks again guys for sharing your experiences.
Funny enough, after a little while of playing with it, I can flip it open with my weak hand and my strong hand middle finger really easily. Still getting used to my strong hand thumb side. I think it is mainly because under my thumbnail is really raw from picking weeds from flower borders the last few weeks.

I went on and did the ultimate problem solving though, and got the auto version, it came today. It flips open no problems what so ever ;-)

Also, while the blade stock is pretty thick for a folder, the ones that I've gotten are almost zero ground down to the edge. Just thought I'd throw that in there because I've read some complaints about the edge geometry being too thick. Both mine are 'tree top' sharp.
