I'm thinking of getting a Microtech SOCOM Elite, so I am interested in hearing any comments about them. Given that they are currently out of production, where is the best place to get one?
Thank you.

I've owned two Socom Elites (still have one of them), both were jsut about perfect in terms of construction and mechanical function. Heck, its a MicroTech, so it pretty well should be! A great hard-use knife but somehow, I like the look of the older Socom clip points better. I used to drive my co-workers crazy with the sudden snap of the lock closing on my Socoms coming from my cubicle.

The For Sale forums probably are the best bet for locating the SE, since it is now out of production. Some new ones may pop up at the major internet dealers.

I couldn't recommend this knife more highly. My Socom has smooth action, solid lockup, excellent fit-and-finish, and came sharper than just about any other knife I've seen NIB.

There are a fair number of great knives out there. With the Socom, you shouldn't be disappointed!

I had a Socom Elite with the anopeen finish, and I loved it. The fit & finish were excellent, and the microbar lock was very tight and solid.

I don't know now why I sold or traded it away...

Thanks for the comments. Now to scrap together the money to get one . . .

Just picked another one up in a trade and this one is the nicest one I have ever had the pleasure of owning........wolf

Argg! Everytime I see a pic of those SE Tantos I kick myself for not grabbing them when they were available. Mine has the old style grind which looks something like this (photo from PV Knife)

redvenom: That is the earlier "Brend" grind and it looks like the Anopeen finish. Not too many of those were available. Good catch.:)

Redvenom,

I like the old grind, anyone know where I can get one still?
It's not gonna be obscenely priced, is it? :)

I don't know the exact number but there wasn't many of the old grind produced. They would probably be hard to find.

Old grind and Anopeen, I think were in the neighborhood of 500 made. There is a list of prices and release/discontinue dates, as well as production #'s out there on the forums. I'm not sure where the thread is, but you can do a search.

I bought one some time right after they stopped production. I got it used from one of our fine forumites. It is one of the best blades you could hope to buy. Fit, finish and lock-up all top notch. Keep searching the production for sale forum. They show up from time to time. I wish I could find one of those tanto grind versions! SWEET!!

I bought s SOCOM Elite a few years ago and used for my primaty EDC for quite some time. The knife is still in my collection although it looks like it has seen it's better days. The clip point blade is very easy to resharpen and the blade finish is excellent. If you can get one, get it.

I have a Socom Elite old grind anopeen. Very good knife, one of the best I own in finish and design. the Microbar Lock is very, very strong and the action is really smooth.
But why not take a look at the new MT Amphibian ? Same good quality as the SE, the handle design is even more ergonomic.
Well, I like both very much. Would never think of giving them away.

I rate it very highly. You may try one of the internet
dealers, or one of the small independanr dealers very
often have great prices.

It is completely unintelligible to me that Microtech has ceased the production of this great folder! Is there anybody who can tell me the reasons?

MT also recently dropped the LCC, one of the best-regarded folders to have hit the streets in the last year or two.

The new Amphibian looks beautiful, but I have serious doubts about a company that will come out with terrific products and then just dump them.

They number and date all their kinves, create a demand for them and in an instant drop them like a hot potato. If this is some marketing strategy to create a "demand" for their knives, they may find that this type of strategy may backfire big time.

I like the Amphibian, but I will buy no further MT products until I get a clarification of the corporate policies. I am not going to spend my $$ only to be toyed around with by any manufacturer.

THAT chisel-ground is for sale!!!!! Gotta save for some hand-made knives......:( :( :) :)
