With the Christmas money I received, I think I am going to buy a Microtech SOCOM or mini-SOCOM. The store I go to has the mini for $125 (I know they're discontinued, but don't know if they have any "new" ones in stock). Is that a good deal? What would be a good deal for the full sized SOCOM? The small is just too small for me. Thanks in advance for any help.

You can get a mini for less than $100. A full size for around $150.00.Check the for sale posts. Also check bladauction.com and Ebay.

Both knives are great users and I like both. Some folks complain about the lockup on the mini, but I have not had a problem.

I have both a SOCOM and a mini SOCOM and enjoy them both. When I am hanging around the house or in an office the mini is perfect but it is small and if you have large hands it may be too small. The SOCOM I carried for many years but often got strange looks when I used it to open envelopes. Outdoors the only strange looks I got with the SOCOM were envious ones:cool: Good luck deciding

i would get a SOCOM elite, better lock, thicker pivot pin, just a little bit different, and can be had in the $150 range, got a LNIB elite w/a brend pre production grind anapeen combo-edge blade, $150 shipped. also have a SOCOM, and like the elite better, just seems 'smoother' better fitted to me. also had a mini SOCOM and agree, they are pretty small, too small for me. but ya will have to look for an elite, kinda hard to find.

**the elite is my fav production knife, bar none**

Wow. I didn't think that the mini was that small at all. At any rate, I'd go for a knife that you are comfortable with. If the small is too small for you, don't get it. Stick with the full sized elite, they seem like really solid knives though I've only hefted one once.
Good luck,
Matt
