The HI forum, even before yesterday's shootings, has long been it's own place
( I hesitate to use the word unique ).

After thinking of today's posts, it occured to me that in a couple thousand years since Socrates, we've gone from: (Before Common Era)a teacher, a student and a log to sit on to; (Y2k) amateur ( for the love of it ) scholars at every level learning and teaching one another almost anywhere on the planet through a computer network, but it's still the Socratic ( albeit a bit more collegial ) method.

Without the net I'd probably never have heard the ideas and experiences of Uncle Bill, Cliff, Daniel, Dennis, John, Sonam, Will, and all the rest of you. I'm a much richer person for it.

PS- the laughter and the Khuks aint bad either ( khuks left deliberately vague so you can speculate on which meaning )

Oh, to h*** with the philosophy. Let's all grab our khuks and go destroy something. Very theraputic, you know!

"Hi ho, hi ho, it's run amok we go..."
( Sorry if that seems inappropriate given events, but my mind just flipped it's circuit breaker. Too much brooding over things I can't do much about. Time for a little craziness and zest and joy of life. )

I think this forum has an attraction for wood-chopper-philes! We all seem to have an unusual obession for chopping the living daylights out of any 4 x 2 that crosses our paths... and asking, "How does in compare in chopping to the AK?"

A great debate then ensues....

Perhaps Rusty is right about the therapeutic nature of wood-whacking... I've been known to go and "have a swing".

Keep your chakma handy
Daniel.

I am definitely a Paul Bunyon wannabe. Besides my khukuri's I have: a maul, sledge, axe, 2 hatchets, 2 folding saws, three Sweed saws, and the pocket chain saw.

I recall once wondering around lost in the woods and the only thought on my mind was:

Its getting dark soon... Oh Goody .... I have to build a shelter and fire with the aid of my pocket chain saw .... Unfortunately, the sun poke through the clouds and we able to get oriented and find our way out.

No problem getting me to help with firewood.

Will

Very interesting post, Will. In a situation that might cause many to panic, you remained calmed and even welcomed the possibility of a night in the woods. It shows the value of the old Boy Scout motto: Be Prepared.
