As I was reading our friend jackknife's latest thread this morning I thought of how often he has extolled the virtues of the simple sodbuster and the peanut. As my only peanut was a gift from a good friend on this forum, (Thomason, you know who you are...;)), I thought it might be nice to pass on a sodbuster to a deserving forum member.

As many of you know, the sodbuster is one of the older slipjoint patterns with a great deal of European and U.S. history behind it.

In reading "Lonesome Dove" I often pictured Gus McRae carrying a sodbuster when mention was made of his large clasp knife. If it was good enough for the likes of ol' Gus and our bud, jackknife, it's good enough for us I should think.

Anyway, the knife being offered is a 4.5" Boker Arbolito with yellow handles and carbon steel blade.

All you need to do to qualify is post in this thread and be a regular contributor on this forum. (Those who visit the forum simply for the giveaways will not be selected.)

I'll figure out some means of selecting the lucky winner in concert with my best bud Smoky (the Weimaraner) sometime in the next few days.

Woof and Good luck! ;)

That is a very great cause for a give away. Thanks very much to jackknife for sharing his wonderful stories and to Elliott for the generous giveaway. Due to my recent good fortune, please do not consider this an entry... just saying thanks.

Sodbusters are great. I have a Case version in yellow and CV and I absolutely love it. It's developing quite a nice patina. Please don't consider this an entry since I am lucky enough to own one, I just wanted to pop in and say thanks for the giveaway and congrats to the lucky winner!

Thanks for the chance ! Ive never owned a Buster other than one i was given that the scales somehow were melted off of. Im gonna rehandle it someday.

That's a very generous giveaway and a nice way to honor someone who really typifies the spirit of the forum.

Please do not enter me in the giveaway - I just wanted to say that it warms my heart to see it taking place.

I'd love to have a carbon Boker.

But am I deserving? I doubt it - I'm a real jerk, you can ask my wife... :D

Sweet!
I was eyeballing a Case Soddie just yesterday. Thanks for the chance!

Good on ya Blues! Jackknife was the reason for my peanut, and IIRC the sodbuster I got after reading some of his posts too... The man knows what he's talkin' about!

Skip me please, I've not been posting much lately, and single blade knives don't agree with me really... I just wanted to pass the 'kudos' for the nice gesture. :)

Strange enough, I just started a hidden give away for the same reason, please do not count me in on this one as I have a soddie like this one.

Plece count me in. Im just starting the building of a house and if the luck is mine its going to be the sharpknife of my buildingtrousers frontpocket. Hardwork is done with moras but a sharp blade is nesisarry. After a thing like that it will be a dear piece of my equipment. Good use of a tool makes it precious. And I like the soddietalk of Jackknife

Great giveaway Elliott in honor of one of the best!

As I have plenty of knives already, please don't count my post as an entry.

Great giveaway Elliott.. I don't recall ever seeing a soddie given away.
Simplicity at its finest.
Lonesome Dove, one of the greatest movies of all time.

As I have recently gone through my downsizing and am feeling really comfortable right now with fewer knives, please don't consider me for this great giveaway either..

Good luck for those considered, it will make someone a great knife

I've only ever owned one soddie, years ago, got lost somewhere along the line. Don 't even remember what brand it was, and probably didn't know what it was called at the time  .
Thanks for the chance Blues, as a good a reason as any.

Don't enter me Elliott! I've already got a few 'busters, but this is a righteous and generous offer!!

I too am a fan of the Sodbuster pattern. I have a Case, A red Bulldog brand, and a stag German Bull Sodbuster Jr.

Great Give away Elliott, and reason for giving it... Please exclude me from the entry.. Good luck to All.......

Elliot,
I have fond memories of my Weimeraner. My parents still keep his picture on the fridge. He left us over 25 yrs. ago! Thanks for the opportunity, but I have already won a couple of knives from Buck Fan and Thomason, so I will omit. I was just reminded of my ol dog Jack Daniels aka J.D.

Very decent offer and useful, the Böker is an honest no nonsense knife alright! Please don't enter me in the draw as I have a No. of Sods already & I think others deserve to get acquainted with them too.

Best wishes W
