Over the years I have become a huge knife fan and have purchased many many knives to fulfill my "addiction". I have carried slippies, lockbacks, fixed blades, tactical, and most other style of knives with absolute bliss until a couple of months ago. Sure there are improvements in technology such as the Benchmade axis lock or the pocket clip or even the multi tool knives, but what is the real purpose of a pocketknife?. Im sure some people use them for their line of work, but a high percentage of people use them for every day cutting needs. What is my or any average Joes perfect pocket knife? After alot of money and many hours searching I have come up with my list:
1. Cutting ability
2.Ease of carry
3.Handling
4.Edge holding and ease of sharpening
5.Practicality
6.Price
Now to my problem, after all this time I realize that the knife for me is the classic sodbuster. It offers everything that I want in a timeless and proven design except for one thing, attractive scales! I guess my perfect knife is a junior sodbuster that is pleasing to the eyes. Looks was not one of my must haves, but in the end that is what it has come down to. Does anyone make a sodbuster with a jigged bone, g10, or any other handsome scale and if so what is your experience and recommendation?

There are plenty of full custom sodbusters available from various makers. Prices will generally start around the $200 mark in my experience.

Queen Cutlery and German Bull have made them in stag and not too dear either.

On the low end, Rough Rider has a few large linerlock sodbusters in jigged bone, faux tortoiseshell, faux abalone, and micarta. Actually pretty good knives.

Don't forget customized factory knives...

Guys like Oupa (username here at BF) and Bob Picklesimer(don't know if he posts here) that will take any knife you want, especially slipjoints and customize it to your hears content.
